Policeman's pickup hits 900-pound bull on roadway

August 23, 2008 | 10:12 pm

An off-duty Banning police sergeant was hurt and his Chevrolet Silverado was totaled Thursday when the pickup struck a 900-pound bull that had wandered onto a country road, the San Bernardino Sun reports:

The Banning police sergeant, who was driving about 55 mph on Highland Springs Road near Brookside Avenue, passed a vehicle in front of him and then merged back into his lane.

"That's when the bull stepped into the roadway," said California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Blondon.

Blondon said the sergeant was driving to work just before dawn when the pickup hit the bull and flipped over.

The sergeant, whose name was withheld, complained of back, neck and chest pain and was taken to San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital. The pickup was destroyed and the bull died at the scene.
