Albino alligator makes its debut in San Francisco
Rick Cleveland pulls a male albino American alligator from its transport box at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. He drove it and another alligator from a Florida zoo to their new home at the museum's Steinhart Aquarium, which reopens Sept. 27.
Albinism occurs in a variety of animal species and is caused by gene mutations that affect the production of pigmentation.
