In The Times recently, L.A. Unleashed's Steve Padilla and staff photographer Mel Melcon captured what gives Hermosa Beach its name as part of the summer Street Scenes series -- including this shot of Joe Martinez and his 2-year-old Chihuahua/Doberman mix, Killer, hanging out on the Strand.
