Sea lion killer manipulated traps

Sea_lions_in_cage_killed

Investigators theorize that the killer of six sea lions on the Columbia River between Washington and Oregon arrived by boat and was familiar with trapping methods, closing the doors of two metal cages before firing a high-powered rifle at the animals within, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The sea lions' carcasses were found Sunday.

Wildlife agents had begun trapping sea lions last month to keep them from eating endangered chinook salmon.

The trapping has been suspended.

American Indian tribes protecting their fisheries and state governments representing commercial and sport fishermen had promoted the sea lion removal.

I'm sad to my soul to learn of this. It's disgusting to think that people could do this to living beings.

Anyone who cares about animals needs to call the governors of Oregon (503.378.4582) and Washington ((360) 902-4111), and their congressional representatives to demand an end to the plan to trap and kill sea lions. Not just a temporary end, but a permanent end to the plan.

Boycott all NW salmon, so long as the salmon fishermen support killing sea lions!!!
