Daily Breeze outs a once-secret dog beach (and so do we)
Those who thought there was only one beach in L.A. County where dogs can go off-leash were given a tempting alternative when the Daily Breeze's South Bay Pets blog revealed a top-secret dog beach near Donald Trump's golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes.
The problem is, it's not officially sanctioned like the better-known dog beach in Long Beach, making it illegal to unleash your pet there. It seems visitors considered it secluded enough to do it anyway.
At the risk of being accused of spoiling a hidden treasure, we too will publish how to find the beach, and leave it to you to decide whether to risk taking your dog. Here's the location, according to the Daily Breeze's Josh Grossberg:
Go to the Trump National Golf Course at 1 Ocean Trails Drive. There's public parking next to the club house. In fact, the clever leaders of RPV mandated that parts of the course remain public. So you can walk through there any time you want. Just stay in the public part and you'll be fine....
Walk around until you see a small trail that leads away from the manicured golf course. There are trails on both sides of the park, but the one on the north side is a more difficult climb.
Follow the trails down and you'll get to the beach.
One problem. Authorities seem to have been alerted. After Grossberg first wrote about the beach, one reader reported that she went there only to discover police issuing tickets.
Grossberg, the blogger, then admitted he has endured a few tickets himself. "...off-leash dog walkers be warned. The Man is on to us!" he wrote...

...Some readers didn't take kindly to the blog publishing the location at all. One poster blasted Grossberg, calling him a "self centered egotistical attention-freak" for making the secret location public. "I like zoos, so bring it on Mr. Media!" the poster wrote.
Another reader had a more measured take: "I live in the private community in which the insulting poster mentioned. For the record, I am NOT a dog fan and am constantly awakened at all hours by the yapping, yipping, barking dogs who reside here in the club. However, every person has the right to own a dog and a right to enjoy public beaches."
L.A. Unleashed will have to stay neutral in this debate. But that doesn't prevent you from sounding off.
