Authorities are searching for a coyote that bit a 14-month-old girl in a San Bernardino County park this morning.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller said the toddler was bitten in the buttocks by the animal about 10:45 a.m. today while she was playing in Alterra Park in Chino Hills.

Miller says the coyote ran away when the girl’s nanny heard her scream and approached the animal.

The girl was taken to a hospital with puncture wounds and is believed to be in good condition.

Deputies were unable to find the animal. State Fish and Game officials have since taken over the search.
