Advice for choosing a college
Many high school students are taking the PSAT today, with the SAT and ACT looming for teenagers applying to college. We ran across this advice for choosing a college, from Richard Hersh in the book from a few years back, "College Unranked," edited by Lloyd Thacker:
“Find the very best, the most demanding schools you can get into, and then go to the one you fall in love with. No matter which school you select, there will come a moment fairly early on when you’re convinced you made a mistake for any number of reasons. At that moment, it is important to be able to say, ‘I made the decision, not my parents or anyone else. I chose this place because I wanted a place that would be demanding, I had faith in, and would challenge me. I’m here because I want to be.' ”
-- Mary MacVean

When I read the title of this article, I was interested in it because it is a subject that is most appealing to me. I am a current junior at Sylmar High Magnet and will be having to go through that process fairly soon and I thought that this article would be beneficial to me. Besides the fact that the article had a really good message to it, it didn't really inform me much about how to chose a college.
