Helping children get a good start to the school year
The Heart and Soul Foundation helped get hundreds of children ready for school over the weekend at Sunkist Elementary School in La Puente.
Heart and Soul volunteers distribute free shoes to some 700 children from schools throughout the Bassett Unified School District. Corporate sponsors contributed nearly $10,000 in free shoes, backpacks and school supplies, said Maxine Coleman, spokeswoman for the Heart and Soul Foundation.
