Hi,
You don't have to post this comment, I just used the comments because I couldn't find a direct email contact. I am a blogger at http://gothamschools.org, a new site all about the NYC public schools. I'm writing a piece comparing the ways different large public school districts in the US provide data to the public - what data is available, in what form, and are there any innovative data tools out there that other districts might be able to adopt.
As far as California is concerned, I've located the STAR system, which seems good in that it allows you to search through a lot of information and get both proficiency and scale score data, but bad in that you can't directly compare subgroups or years in a single search.
I wonder if you can point me to any other data tools of use to the public, and comment on the general availability and usefulness of data about the schools in LA and/or CA.
Thanks so much,
Kelly Vaughan
