A look at science and a four-year school
Students from several community colleges are spending time at UC Riverside, getting a taste of both university life and science teaching careers, the university announced.
UC Riverside’s Community College Internships are offered Monday through Aug. 8 through the Copernicus program. Among the activities is a trip to the La Brea Tar Pits to meet with UCR professor David Crowley, who has been researching bacteria at the site. Students also will visit the San Bernardino Water Treatment Facility and Mt. Palomar Observatory.
Presentations relating to mathematics and science top the agenda as well as the nuts and bolts of how to transfer to a four-year school, apply for financial aid and obtain a teaching credential.
Participating schools include Chaffey College, Pasadena City College, Santa Monica College and Riverside Community College.
