Teen driving gets attention

A teenager's pot of gold and a frequent parent's nightmare: teen driving. Some students at Oxford Academy in Cypress are trying to raise awareness of safe teen driving. The school is one of 10 finalists in a contest called "Act Out Loud." The Oxford team is giving presentations at driver education and health classes, handing out stickers and flyers at events and writing stories, among other activities. They documented their work here. That's also the place to vote for a team, which will determine who wins the top prize of $10,000.

Car crashes are the top killer of American teenagers, taking nearly 6,000 lives a year, according to the contest organizers, the National Organizations for Youth Safety and the Allstate Foundation.

WELL PERSONALLY AS A TEENAGER I AM AWARE THAT DRIVING ACCIDENTS ARE AMONGST THE FIRST KILLER 'S REGARDING TEENAGERS. AND TI MAKES ME GLAD THAT MOST OF US ARE BECOMING AWARE OF IT INSTEED OF STAYING IN DENIAL. THE PROGRAM THAT THIS SCHOOL IS RUNNING IS EXCELLENT IT ACTUALLY GIVES STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOICE THEIR OPINION ON AN INCIDENT THAT AFFECTS EVRY SINGLE ONE OF US.

I think us teens drive, whether people like it or not. It's great to promote safe driving maybe not just teens but everyone would learn from it.
