Skating through high school
Skateboarding is moving to high school campuses. L.A. Unified and the National High School Skateboard Assn. are bringing top skateboarders to schools, and the district plans to offer skateboarding as an after-school activity next year.
The first demonstation is set today at Los Angeles High School in Mid-City and includes appearances by two of the world's best-known skateboarders: Paul "P-Rod" Rodriguez and Danny Supa. Other demonstrations are scheduled for Monday at Maywood Academy, and Tuesday at Grant High School, says Jeffrey Stern, president of the National High School Skateboard Assn.
The school district's motivations might be discerned on L.A. High's website, where today's event is called an anti-drug rally.
