Student film project wins PTA award
A Los Angeles fifth-grader has won an Award of Excellence from the California PTA for her film about a project to help keep homeless people warm. Aarica Griner's film, "Making Blankets for the Homeless" was greeted with a standing ovation by the thousands of people at the state PTA convention over the weekend in Long Beach.
Jan Harp Domene, the National PTA president, announced that Aarica's film was also receiving a National Award of Excellence in the film/video production category in the Intermediate division. Aarica is a student at Overland Avenue Elementary School in West L.A.
