L.A. Unified Supt. Brewer lobbying in Sacramento
Los Angeles Unified Supt. David Brewer is in Sacramento today, meeting with politicians to update them on the district's budget situation and urging them to lobby Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to put more money into education funding.
Although the governor included more dollars for schools in his latest proposed budget, education leaders say they are still underfunded because the budget doesn't include a cost-of-living increase and cuts certain programs that will now have to be paid with general funds. L.A. Unified estimates it will face a $375.2-million shortfall this year and next.
