Healthy high school fair

If your vision of a high schooler's diet is fat, sugar and caffeine, you might be relieved by Shery High School's health fair.

Students at the Torrance school will learn at the fair Thursday about topics from nutrition to Reiki relaxation and healing techniques. A personal trainer will be on hand to speak to the students and to conduct strength and agility tests. The day will also include discussions on substance abuse, addiction, drinking and driving, first aid and much more.

“A healthy lifestyle is not just about eating wisely and exercising," said Shery teacher Kathy Patterson. “It incorporates the idea that our everyday lives should be about balance. Teaching young adults how to live a healthier lifestyle becomes increasingly important to ensure they will grow up to be healthier adults who make intelligent decisions about their physical and mental fitness.”
