School budgets in danger
What do you think about the budget cuts threatened for California schools? Write to us and let us know.
L.A. Unified has a website that's part of a campaign to fight for education funding. It says in part:
"If the current state budget becomes a reality, Gov. Schwarzenegger's devastating proposed reductions would force LAUSD to slash more than $460 million in funding. It would be the equivalent of closing 22 LAUSD high schools or eliminating 5,750 district employees. These types of budget cuts are unacceptable and the district would never approve them, but the examples illustrate the magnitude that the damaging reductions would have on our schools."
There also are links to groups opposed to the budget cuts, including the state PTA.

The governor is taking this overboard, I think that this is so unfair for middle or low class families, like mine, that cannot afford to take their children to a private school to be cut back on school money. I think that we pay ridiculous amounts in taxes for this kind of treatment. Why can the governor focus on firing those crooked cops that treat people like animals and are cheating the system or those people that are working for the city ex: public transportation drivers(bus drivers), peace officers, Mail carriers, park rangers etc., they can’t even give good customer service, that are very unprofessional and unfair and make them work for a decent living like everyone else. I pay for all my bills monthly have never been in trouble with the law or anything of that nature, and when my uncle (an elderly man) was unable to work because of a health problem that he has to deal with his whole life, disability wouldn’t grant his application nor did unemployment but then again some people that are perfectly capable of working can get section 8, food stamps, unemployment and all the benefits that are for people with disabilities and not capable of working or taking care of themselves. I have worked so hard in order to try to give my children an example and grant them a great education but reducing school funds is not fair to families like mine. I don’t think this should be an issue schools need funds classes are getting more crowded kids cannot learn like that. I believe that children should be able to receive a great education whether or not in a private school. The governor is making it seem as if a good education should be at private schools it shouldn’t be that way. Not everyone has a 5 or 6 figure job. There are still low income families in Los Angeles and that will never change but please don’t deprive my kids of an education because of my economic status.
