Empowering Chicano/Latino youths
The 26th annual Chicano/Latino Youth Leadership Conference is set for this summer at Cal State Sacramento, and applications are due April 18.
The conference has big goals for the 10th- and 11th-grade Chicano/Latino students who attend: to educate the students about the state legislative process and the contributions of the Chicano/Latino population; to teach respect for culture, family and language; and to underscore the importance of civil rights, immigrant rights, language rights, employment rights and public policy.
Students who are accepted attend for free.
Each year about 700 students apply for 140 spaces. More than 2,000 students have taken part since 1982.
