Accepted to prep school?
The Times' Carla Rivera writes:
Admission letters from college-prep schools in Los Angeles went out over the weekend, notifying students of whether they made it into their campus of choice.
Many families apply to several schools and for most, decisions have to be made by the end of the month.
There was much speculation that declining birth rates across parts of the region and state would result in fewer applications for the upcoming school year. Some schools are reporting a shrinking pool of students, but based on anecdotal evidence, the picture is not so clear.
Loyola High School, a ninth- through 12th-grade Catholic boys school near downtown L.A., reported a slightly higher demand this year, with more than 800 applications for 305 spaces.
The director of admissions, Heath Utley, says: “We’ve heard anecdotally that as an all-male school there are supposedly fewer males of the age group that should be applying to us this year. A few other schools have seen applicants decline, but we have sort of gone against that trend.”
