Russell Crowe wants to give everyone $1 million
Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe owns the Sydney Rabbitohs rugby team.
And he thinks he's figured out a cure for the U.S. financial crisis.
"I have been intently watching the political process,'' Crowe told talk show host Jay Leno. His plan? For the U.S. government to give each American $1 million.
He figured the U.S. has a population of about 300 million, and a $300-million outlay was a fraction of the $700-billion financial bailout package.
"I was thinking If they want to stimulate the economy and get people spending so they can look after their mortgage ... give everyone $1 million.''
Crowe is in the U.S. to promote his new spy thriller with Leonardo DiCaprio and director Ridley Scott, “Body of Lies.”
Crowe will team up with Scott in “Nottingham,” based on Robin Hood, and he's has grown his hair past shoulder length for the film.
"I'm going to play Maid Marian" and Friar Tuck, Crowe, twirling his long hair, told Leno. "It's gonna be a challenge."
Kidding. Actually, Crowe will play the sheriff of Nottingham. Sienna Miller has been cast as Maid Marian.
Oh-oh.
Sienna husband-stealer Miller? Somebody better tell Crowe’s wife Danielle Spencer to visit the set a lot.

Mr. Crowe should do the math on that! 300 million dollars would not give each person in the US 1 million dollars.....it would give 300 people 1 million dollars!

Russel should buy a calculator or learn how to divide.

It is very sad that people can't do simple math and that this is considered news.
$300 million would be $1 for each American.

Hello ....
300 million people
300 millions dollars
This render each person only USD1 dollar .....
This guy cannot even pass his elementary mathematics...... pathetic

Do the math. 300 million times one million is 300 TRILLION!
This is why Crowe hires a personal financial manager.

"He figured the U.S. has a population of about 300 million, and a $300-million outlay was a fraction of the $700-billion financial bailout package."
300 million times 1 million actually amounts to 300 trillion dollars. You know, it's called algebra.

that is why he is not in a career that involves thinking. If we gave 300 million people 1 million dollars, we would spend 300 trillion dollars, not 300 million. Dumbass!
We can give 300 million people 1 dollar out of his 300 million he wants to split up.

Russell's math is off. $700 billion divided by 300 million people means each person could get $2333. Two thousand bucks per person would be pretty good, but it won't help anyone pay off their mortgage.

Ugh... idiots.
300,000,000 * 1,000,000 = 300,000,000,000,000
Giving every American 1 million dollars would be 300 trillion dollars not 300 million.

I'm not sure I agree with you 100% on your math there, Russell.
300 million people x $1,000,000 is not $300 million. It's $300 million *million*. That's $300 TRILLION, or over 20 times as much as last year's US GDP.
Other than that, though, fantastic idea! Keep 'em comin'!

Good thing you write about gossip and not about money because your math is wrong. It would cost $3 trillion dollars to implement Russell's plan. $300mX$1M=$3 Trillion.
$300 million dollars would only allow for each receive to one dollar on Russell's plan.

If you watch the tape, Russell only said to give each person 1 Million dollars. He NEVER said that the total cost amounted to $300 million dollars. I think that the writer, Snead, of the article did the incorrect math.

Russell Crowe's an idiot, but its not that bad an idea. If the 700 billion was divided up between the U.S's say 50mil ppl with a mortgage, that would be $14000 each. That would definitely help ease the strain. Would have to be better than just bailing out big companies. Home-owners aren't going to benefit at all from this bail-out. You guys are meant to be the capitalist champions, wats with this socialising your losses rubbish. Weak America, Weak!!

He's on to something- no matter what-it makes more sense than fighting useless wars-so good for you Russell!

His idea (modify calculations, and define "everybody") sounds better than a government bailout that will definitely only benefit the rich.
