Leo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry say DON'T vote!!
Stars like Dustin Hoffman, Halle Berry, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Jamie Foxx, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Aniston, Ellen DeGeneres, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and more, took the time to make this "5 Friends" video telling, make that urging, everyone NOT to vote.
That's right. NOT vote. So you should watch it.
For one thing, it's funny.
And you get to see Sarah Silverman take off her bra.
Then send this blog item to five friends.
C'mon, you got five friends, right? OK, four, send it to four.

Great! This is just what I want. No vote for Obama and no vote for McCain. Get rid of the phoney legislators and let the people truly vote! While we're at it, let's vote to ban all the Hollywood idiots from election commercials!

This is about 4 and 1/2 minutes longer than it needs to be. I was annoyed after 3 seconds.
This is typical silly Hollywood idiocy. Global warming, the issue every celebrity feels courageous enough to stand up for, was mentioned about 5 times, and national security, the issue no celebrity will acknowledge, not once.

snide, patronizing, glib. hollywood outdid itself with this one.
Posted by: friendlygiant | October 01, 2008 at 07:50 PM
I wasn't going to vote because I thought a vote for McCain now is futile. But they're right. I shouldn't give up so easily.

Thank you. We need to get back to people who are involved. It doesn't matter how you plan to vote. You need to vote -- or it's your fault!

how dumb do they think we are to talk down to us this way?
Posted by: charles | October 01, 2008 at 09:07 PM
And people wonder why I NEVER pay attention to anything that Hollywood says or does? I wonder why all of these people have jobs in the first place; it is clear that they are not a credit to anyone.

It's outrageous! How dare people not share the same priorities and positions that Big Shaker does! How arrogant of those rich Hollywood elitists to want to talk about issues that THEY care about, to have their OWN opinions and beliefs! Why, don't they know EVERYONE must share the same values as Big Shaker and his friend friendlygiant?!

Hollywood clowns always crack me up. Why the hell would anyone listen to them? They think they are so influential on Main Street. The arrogance is astounding.

I don't care for the sarcastic attitude that is condescending. I am not sure which people this is aimed at. Halle Berry would have been enough without the sarcasm. Maybe Jonah Hill too. The rest is overdone. I have seen the same faces everywhere. Enough.

Yep, too long. But decent anyway.

This really makes me want to puke

Exactly how do people vote on any of these issues, are they on the ballot? I much prefer the drug PSAs where the same people tell you not to use them and the go back to their trailers and get high.

Which knucklehead said they don't mention national security? They used the words "Terrorism" and "war" -- but both of those are synonymous with "national security." If you're going to be indignant, at least get your facts straight.

you have to admit...it has its moments!
Posted by: mona | October 02, 2008 at 07:23 AM
Well...
Because you're reading this in the LA times in an entertainment blog...shows that yes, you do pay attention to what celebrities say.
And yes, they're talking to you...the sheep that will eat anything spoon fed to you from your church/government/tabloid/etc. (fox news IS a tabloid btw, and nothing more)
For those with ADD attention spans, the video says that you SHOULD vote...
...but explaining what sarchasm is hurts my head too much.
on second though....please, don't vote.
Seriously. You screwed this country over twice already.

I AGREE!! DON'T VOTE for either one of the two buffoons they're shoving down our throats. MAKE A DIFFERENCE! VOTE LIBERTARIAN!!!!
Posted by: Joseph | October 02, 2008 at 01:41 PM
Instead of mentioning issues like women's rights and global warming, had these celebrities instead been saying things like "If you think the blacks and the gays are gettin' too uppity, then vote!" — you can bet all the right wing loonies would be praising this video to the high heavens. There is a nasty, racist, homophobic side to the Republican platform, which McCain and Palin are only too happy to exploit.

This is one of the best public service announcements....
quit hating.
Posted by: Nora | October 02, 2008 at 02:40 PM
It's aimed at the millions of Americans who don't vote purely because they feel "meh, why vote?" or they're just lazy or whatever.
It's a little too long, sure, but the message is to vote and I don't see a problem with that. And to the guy who said, "let's have direct democracy," you're crazy. Civics 101 dude. Seriously.
JEEBUS, and stop saying "Main Street." I'm coming to hate that stupid phrase.

HMMM...what happened to the Vote for Obama tag at the end???!!! Pretty clear to me that this is the message these boneheads were trying to convey!
