Guillermo Del Toro talks about 'The Hobbit' in 3-D and IMAX
Will the two-part epic, “The Hobbit,” go 3-D and IMAX?
Director Guillermo Del Toro tells MTV News that he’s not ruling it out.
“IMAX is a fantastic medium. I am a shareholder. I love IMAX. I remember seeing ‘Polar Express,’ and then seeing ‘Polar Express’ in 3-D and IMAX and having my life completely transformed. I think it would be a worthy discussion. But it hasn’t arrived."
He’s a shareholder? Wow. Well, that speaks volumes.
About the possibilities of a 3-D/IMAX "Hobbit," apparently, its just too early to talk about that.
“Right now what we have is, you don’t have two filmmakers and two screenplay writers -- you have four screenplay writers. We’ll be talking about 3-D, on IMAX -- but [not] right now.”
But soon, soon.
My thumbs are up. How about yours?
Are you in favor of an IMAX journey into Middle Earth to visit some cute little Hobbits? No? Why not????

I'm a traditionalist - to direct & produce a movie FOR 3D / IMAX is one thing (The Red Planet, Beowulf, etc). To convert a movie meant for the big screen into a 3D / IMAX production is another. If a film is produced to be viewed on all mediums, concessions will ultimately be made and it won't be all it can be. With a movie like this, it's all or nothing. I say put everything into making it as perfect as possible on one medium and go for it full throttle! And since the Hobbit (parts 1 & 2) will never be produced and exhibited exclusively for IMAX / 3D - make it with the big screen in mind and only the big screen in mind. Don't try to make the Hobbit (or any blockbuster) something it was never intended to be... You can't be perfect BOTH on big screen and IMAX / 3D...
