'SNL' video: George Bush endorses John McCain and Sarah Palin
Apparently, we're not done with George W. Bush yet. At least, not done making fun of him.
Last night's "Saturday Night Live"' election season "Update Thursday" made mock of the way the Republican party has kept Bush far, far away from the McCain/Palin presidential campaign.
The show opened with a skit about Bush - played by Will Ferrell - attempting to lend his endorsement to Sarah Palin and John McCain. But only Palin can be found.
Tina Fey, sporting Palin’s slightly shorter, more girlish bangs, admits to being busy "traveling around this great country," and “doing a little shopping” and tells Bush that after McCain heard about Bush's endorsement, he went missing, and was “last seen traveling on foot through the Adirondacks.”
Bush proceeds to endorse Palin, talking about how important the VP job is since the VP decides “when we go to war, how we tax the citizens and how we interpret the constitution. The president can do nothing without checking with the vice president."
Palin interrupts, says she doesn’t want to “go all Katie Couric on you, but I think it's actually the other way around. I think the vice president reports to the president."
Bush is stunned. “Really? That’s not what Dick Cheney told me when he sat me down on the first day.”
When McCain is finally dragged in by a snowsuit-clad Todd Palin, Bush grabs his hand and won’t let him escape before they pose for photos.
Bush then endorses the squirming McCain: “John was there for me 90% of the time for the last 10 years. When you think of me, when you think of John McCain, think of me, George W. Bush. Think of this face. When you’re in the voting booth, before you vote, picture this face. Right here. A vote for John McCain is a vote for George W. Bush.”
"I want to be there for ya, John, for the next eight years," Bush concludes.
"The next 16 years!," chirps Palin.
OK, funny? But also flat out terrifying?
What do you think?

Now doggone it, you're right. This is flat out terrifying! Yes indeedy. You Betcha!
That's what the best of satire is -- identifying really scary things and managing to make us laugh about them (through our tears!)

Show is awfully one sided. I used to like the show but now I have a distaste for it.

McCain is not George Bush. He is George Bush 90% of the time. Does that make him 10% better, or 10% worse than the worst President in American history?

I have really enjoyed SNL play with this election. Important issues have been part of the humor. Who picked Palin as McCain's running mate because this is the biggest mistake the Republicans have made. What if McCain dies, Palin takes over....now that would be a nightmare.

Quiet! What's that sound? Is it the swoosh of a toilet emptying!?! Pathetic, but true - at a time when our nation faces challenges which are probably unprecedented, more attention is given to smart-ass commentary provided by the likes of SNL than to serious, thoughtful, intelligent discourse. Thus - America will get what it deserves on Election Day. A real-world decision disproportionately influenced by those who live in the make-believe world of entertainment and glamour. Hear the swoosh? That's America, going down the drain.

Satire is only funny if based on truth, and the truth is that the Republican party has done its best to ruin this great nation over the past 8 years. A Republican administration lied and manipulated us into doing the most evil of acts - invading a sovereign nation for no reason.
This is a great bit of satire because it is so true.

At the beginning pres. Bush (Will Ferrell) made the comment on how his speech was going to affect the economy.
Today, we see the results of how powerful an SNL, fake speech can be!!! LOL

Most of the major events that have transpired recently -- Iraq; the economy; the environment; higher gas prices -- were based on decisions on situations that were decades in the making.
I think Obama has many admirable qualities. But those who choose to blame Bush and the Republicans for all of the ills that beset us are bound to be disappointed. It is both amusing and a sad state of affairs when we believe our fellow countrymen of graver ills than foreign powers who actually mean us harm.
After all, this is one of Obama's central tenets. Yet it is amazing how many people either choose to not listen to what Obama is saying or they choose not to act based on his leadership. Either way, it's not a surprise to me -- after all, the people who have known Obama the longest, aside from his wife and family, seem to treat him with the greatest disdain (Rev Wright, Rev Jackson...)
Were he alive today, I believe Orwell would find great amusement in the artificial world that many posters on this board choose to live in. He would have been an inspired writer for SNL - imagine 1984 as a TV Funhouse episode!! Wheeee!!!
I am waiting for the SNL skit where we jump out of the frying pan and into the fire!!
(Oh I'm sorry, that's real life!!)

Isn't it funny how the liberal left media only does satire as related to Mccain/Palin? I have yet to see anything on Obama/Biden. Yeah, fair and balanced media.

Vote Obama!

Hey guys...spell it after me: C__O__M__E__D__Y. SNL is not supposed to be "fair and balanced." News media are supposed to be "fair and balanced" ...which is why we have FOX ? Hmmm...parallel universes I guess.

Bush, so much fun in such an idiotic person.

Isn't it amazing that the only person with some intelligence, stated that the problems we are having were decades in the making. Clinton had the opportunity to do something about the banking and home loan problem when he was in office and he elected to veto any kind of restraint that would help keep these loans under control and you would all like to blame the Bush administration. I am neither Republican nor Democrat, but I'm not stupid enough to sit back and say we should blame everything on one party. Why don't we open our eyes America and start thinking for ourselves instead of listening to the media.

You liberal nutjobs make me laugh. What's so "terrifying" about Sarah Palin? Because she's hot? Because she knows how to use firearms? Because she's been a Governor and has more executive experience than Obama? Keep in mind, two of the dearest Dems - Clinton and Carter - were governors before becoming President.
Get an effing grip. Obama will destroy our country by pushing us over the edge into socialism. I support Bob Barr, but McCain is the lesser of two evils by FAR.

The dress Michelle Obama wore when she appeared on "The View" was $150!
BTW, we're already into socialism - what do you think the Wall Street bailout was? YOU get a grip!
