Miley Cyrus' sweet 16 birthday bash at Disneyland

MileycyrusA puppy, a couture gown and a birthday party at Disneyland?

Miley Cyrus
’ 16th birthday gave new meaning to the word "schweeeeeet."

Although she doesn't actually turn 16 until Nov. 23, the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim closed Sunday night for the "Hannah Montana" star's major life event. The party included a four-song performance by the pubescent pop star and a breathtaking fireworks show high above Sleeping Beauty's Castle!

An estimated 5,000 people (it cost $250 a ticket) attended the bash and walked the purple carpet, and  yes, that's Cyrus' favorite color.

Talking to press, the "Hannah Montana" star bragged that her parents also bought her a new puppy for her birthday. No word on what kind.

News was released before the party that Miley would wear a  couture gown from Elie Saab’s spring/summer 2008 collection. Couture gowns are beyond the realm of most teenagers, as they range from $50,00-$200,000. According to Marilyn Heston Associates, Saab's rep, Miley's was made of tulle and encrusted in silver sequins.

Cyrus' father, Billy Ray, opened the concert for his daughter with a few of his own tunes, including "Achy Breaky Heart." To perform, Miley changed into a white ruffled skirt and jersey-like vest with "Sweet 16" on the back.

All evening long, her guests and their families, including stars such as Steve Carell, Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks and Jennifer Love Hewitt, rode rides such as  Big Thunder Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. David Archuleta and his entourage rode Space Mountain. Jennie Garth and her family ducked out before the fireworks display. Celebs, by the way, do not have to pay the party entrance fee. But they do get caught in limo-lock.

This makes me sick. I am disgusted with her and anyone who went to this fiasco. Does she have a clue how many kids in this country are HUNGRY right now, or don't have adequate healthcare, or have no roof over their heads? Honest to God, what is wrong with these people? I have a completely different view of Jennifer Love Hewitt now. I am boycotting Ghost Whisperer. It may be one of my favorite shows, but she obviously has no character to be a part of this obnoxious display of wealth and over indulgence. And we wonder why half of Hollywood is in rehab. It's like ancient Rome and the debauchery of the elite. Disgusting.

Wow, the world is spiraling downward and then this kind of thing.....Gotterdamerrung!

Absolutely disgusting. She's exploited by her family and Disney for her "Sweet Sixteen." Disney, who pays her to be on their show, made $1.2 million in revenue off this event (excluding costs to put on the event).
It's nothing but a publicity stunt by Disney, and your article should point that out.
Sadly, this exploitation of a young woman should be more of a business story than entertainment.
At the end of the day, what does this sort of exploitation of a human being who isn't yet grown tell our youth? Just sad. Boo on Disney!

Celebs, by the way, do not have to pay the party entrance fee. But they do get caught in limo-lock.

Just curious why celebrities don't have to pay also?

Is she gay yet? That's all the rage you know.
Peace, love and just be gay :-)

It doesn't mention this in the article of course, but all the money made at this event went to charity. Miley sponsors the Youth Services of America organization and all ticket sales plus another million dollar donation went to this organization. Please....before you degrade Miley or the event please check out other sites that will tell you the complete story.

I tnank that what she is doing is very cool i know my daughter is a very big fan of her's and what she does is her buisness .This what she want's to do in life it's not her fault that we are not like her.

Celebs didn't have to pay 'cuz they're better than us, haven't you noticed? Gag me.

Actually, Disney donated a portion of the revenue from this event to charity. And, I honestly don't believe this was miley's own doing--the whole idea of the party that is. I was actually in DCA during the party, since I couldn't go to Disneyland because I didn't have a ticket.
Anyways, of course the celebrities don't have to pay. They were invited guests. It was, after all, a birthday party.

Wow i'm 16 & i couldn't possibly think of having such a big party for myself or even wearing that dress, this can clearly predict her future(chaos, corruption). Now I know where all OUR money goes.

You people are the ones who make me sick. You really need to get your facts straight before you start with your ignorant and jealous comments.

The girl WORKS FOR DISNEY. DISNEYLAND IS OWNED BY DISNEY. This article also fails to mention the $1 million dollars that was present to her favorite charity.

Really...you people need to get a grip. Let's say she didn't work for Disney and let's say there was no charity involved...this is America! You can earn money and do whatever you want with it. I know - you like to blame your lack of wealth on other people because it's easier. It also makes you feel good to hate people who make more money than you.

Disgusting...

Just because somebody attended this event, it shouldn't change your views on them.

but I do agree that this whole Hannah Montana phenomenon has gotten out of hand, everyone that goes through the "Disney Cycle" just ends up being some whore in rehab.

so I'll see you again!

Its sad that those that had the money to buy a ticket (celebs) were excused and the lowley common people had to pay.

Good for her, what an amazing 16th for a girl to have. Please dont call it wrong or what ever words you use cos its not, she has the money to do it so she does it, get over it. ROCK ON MILEY CYRUS!

It's rather irresponsible journalism to fail to mention that the $250.00 ticket price was for CHARITY.. benefiting the Youth Service America charity.
Miley works for Disney. This was a charity event under the guise of a Sweet 16 party. Celeb's rarely pay for admittance because they are worth their price in gold for publicity. In fact, more often then not.. they are paid to attend events. I highly doubt Miley's parents paid for the Couture gown.. again, it is publicity for the designer.
This article just begs for knee jerk reactive comments.. such as "disgusting" and "obnoxious". Dish Rag is an appropriate header for this column for sure.

Wow, you can certainly see a lot of star envy here. And to Stacy, how many of those kids you talk about could be fed with the three billion in aid we give to Israel or the 10 billion we give to all others? Maybe you should get your issues in line.

Except that all the proceeds went to charity. I love it when people get indignant and are completly wrong. Its funny that someone is gonna boycott their favorite tv show because the actor attended a charity event.

I am pissed off, That's right pissed off, disneyland is the happiest place on earth Bullshit!, I can't believe that the fireworks went off last night at 11:30pm Disney should have some consideration towards the ppl of Anaheim, what are those bastards thinking......

As a teenager myself, I have to say this is awful. First of all, she has this party that she PAYS people to go to when teenagers around the country won't be celebrating their birthday becuse the economy is awful and people are losing their jobs. Why not give the people a break and let it be free. Gosh. Plus she's a disgrace to our country when little kids idolize her and their are awful pictures of her all over the internet. Did you see her dress? That is why too low cut and my parents would never let me wear that, even if I was "famous". Did I mentain she's dating a 20 year old? makes me sick.

Stacy, What are you so angry? I think we should all quit our jobs and not do anything nice so we can help poor, starving people. Ooops... then, our economy won't function and everyone will be poor and starving. It pains me how stupid you are. disgusting.

all of y'all on mileys side, well honestly, you make me sick!!
don't you know she was all up on her dad in some pictures. I know yall all remember that!! She was a good person!! What happened?
So just shut the heck up!! Seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol to those who comment on "disgust", i have one question...Are you new? or are you new? The president alone spent probably trillions of dollars of his raggity ass, and you trash Miley for doing donating, and opening new ideas. People, get your facts before you type stupid please ;)

The $$$$ she made from revenues during the event is the same as if the park opened for public, why would it matter?

lol "absolutely disgusting" she makes 1 million and you jump on her, yet there's numerous people out there that make more then that in a week... lol

Get Real, Stop Whining.

she didn't deserve it spoiled bratty bragging devil girl is more like it she doesn't deserve fame or a 16th birthday. she needs to focus on charity she makes me want to samck her

Since my daughters hit their teen years I have made my decisions about teenage girl stars by asking myself whether I would think if I was this girl's dad. In Miley's case, I would still be proud of her; she's growing up to be a balanced, fun and complex young woman in the middle of the most challenging environment in the world. I am positive that Billy Ray is very proud of her.
