Woody Allen says an Obama loss would be 'terrible', a 'disgrace' to the US

Adding to the increasingly heavy Hollywood pile-on, Woody Allen has come out for Barack Obama.

And the award winning writer/director/actor of comedy classics such as "Annie Hall," “Manhattan,” says it won’t be funny if Barack Obama fails to win the presidential seat.

"It would be a disgrace and a humiliation if Barack Obama does not win," Allen told journalists at the ongoing 56th San Sebastian film festival, where his latest film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" is screening.

"It would be a very, very terrible thing for the United States in many, many ways. It would be a terrible thing if the American public was not moved to vote for him, that they actually preferred more of the same."

Obama, Allen said, is "so much better" than Republican rival John McCain, and "represents a huge step upward from (the) incompetence and misjudgment" of the Bush administration.

Just so happens that Scarlett Johansson, who co-stars in Allen's new film, is also a bigtime Obama supporter. And her brother works for his campaign.

Also on the Obama bandwagon, Spanish-born Hollywood actor Antonio Banderas, who told festival press that he's backing Obama for the sake of his daughter, even though he is not a US citizen and cannot vote.

Guess that means his wife Melanie Griffith may also be for Obama.

That's three more stars to add to the BO list: Oprah, Matt Damon, Margaret Cho, LIndsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, Jennifer Aniston, Robert DeNiro, Chris 'Rock, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel Jackson, George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Cloris Leachman, Jennifer Garner, Pamela Anderson, and Pink,

Does celebrity support matter to you one way or the other? Does a star's endorsement mean bonus points or points deleted? If so, why? Speak up!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Makes no difference to me what the celebrities think, unless they're talking about entertainment. Me, I'm still going to vote for Sarah Palin, she's got my vote, and I hope she does become President eventually. Why? Cause I have a right to my opinion also.

Woody Allen is so boring and irrelevant I can't even get through the title of his latest movie without getting bored and irritated. Both candidates are impressive Americans. I don't want my taxes raised to pay for more programs I have no say about. Therefore, I vote for McC. Thanks for the predictable opinion, though, Woodman.

In the topsy-turvy world of rightwingers, Democratic endorsements from celebrity nobodies such as Tom Hanks, Matt Damon and George Clooney are irrelevant and don't carry any weight.

But when Republicans get the support of eye-blinding starpower personalities such as Kid Rock, Jessica Simpson and Bo Derek, then it shows that the GOP's message resonates across the cultural spectrum.

i agree with woody allen. remember people - HEIDI MONTAG ENDORSED JOHN MCCAIN! and he was pleased with the endorsement and pretended to actually watch The Hills (i hope he was pretending). at least Obama attracts intelligent , A listers. Obama/ Biden 08!!!!

Woddy Allen has a definite point. Why in the world would you want more of the same? The Bush administration has put America into a downfall, ranging close to another depression. If McCain were voted president, then America would for sure go into a state of depression.

Yes, Mr. Allen has always had good judgment... No matter how you vote, or think - Woody Allen is so out of touch with normal folks it's ridiculous to think that anyone would feel confirmation or refutation with these statements.

who cares what 'celebs' think of politics? would you ask woody allen for his opinion on the new hadron collider at CERN? no more than i would care about Henry Kissenger's opinion about what clothes i should buy.

though i like woody allen's movies, he has no clue about what most people care about - LOWER TAXES. Obama wants higher taxes, McCain not sure. It's a no-brainer ... National Security - people trust McCain, not so clear about Obama. that's enough for most people. watch the results on election nite. It won't even be close.

Woody Allen is absolutely correct. The last eight years of Bush have been a disaster. A McCain/Palin administration will be no better. Around the world, people regardless of religion, race, or income want an Obama victory. Americans need to open up their eyes to real issues (Iraq War, economy), get past any racism, and mark their ballots for Barack.

Scarlett Johansson (actress)actually is a clone from original person, who has nothing with acting career.Clone was created from stolen biomaterial.Original Scarlett Galabekian last name is nice, CHRISTIAN young lady. Those clones(it's not 1)made in GERMANY, leader manufacturer of humans clones,it's in Ludwigshafen am Rhein,N.Bavaria,Mr.Helmut Kohl home town, clones spreading globaly, they're NAZI type disciplined and mind controlled,be careful get close you'll be controlled too.Original family didn't authorize any activity with stolen biomaterials,it's all should go to Cedars-Sinai MedCenter in LA.Controlling clones is US military operation.Original Scarlett isn't engage,by the way

Cool. Let's see, pedo "Woody" is voting for BHO, and I vote the opposite of pedos.

Sandra Bernhard? Isn't she a child molester? Another Obama supporter speaks....what does this say about him and the company he keeps. May be Sandra and Lindsey Lohan (Obama's Girls Unite) could go on the radio together to show support for Mr. Obama! I am sure we would all want to listen carefully to what they have to say! NOT! NOT! NOT! Just saying their names makes you want to go take a shower to clean the filth off. Also, isn't this guy Woody Allen a child molester too? Wasn't the victim his daughter? More Obama friends

It doesn't matter how celebrities vote. What does is that everybody considers carefully the facts about the candidates.
McCain is old and has many health issues, his running mate has no experience but is a heartbeat away from his job. Both will listen to advisors that have led us thru eight disastrous years.
Obama and Biden will have the advantage of a a fresh approach to national and foreign problems .

Go Woody! Right on!!! I don't care who speaks out-we just need to put Obama in and the Republicans out-hopefully forever-so rock on Woody!

Ah, good ole woody, the poster child for sound decision making and morality.

Hey woody, how's your daughter-wife doing?

perv.

If you can't trust the opinion of a world-class neurotic who banged his thirty-four-years-his-junior stepdaughter, then whose opinion *can* you trust?

Wow Woody, what an intelligent comment! How predictable, coming from such a smart glitter-guy from Hollywood. What a revelation - McCain/Palin = Bush!!! Why? Because their both evil Republicans! What a logical argument! Therefore, we're going to vote for a socialist with no experience whatsoever, no concrete opinions, many radical associations, and no respect for the insignificant citizens who have not spewed trash on Hollywood. Vote for Obama - because he's not Bush. Wow, you must have a 160 IQ.
Woody, you are a disgrace to Jews and Americans worldwide.
