Barbra Streisand warns John McCain: Women are "not that stupid!"
Barbra Streisand has some theories about why Republican presidential candidate John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.
On her blog, she writes:
"Maybe he was sick of the lack of media attention…maybe he had enough of the late night talk show hosts poking fun at his age…maybe he realized that belonging to a party that has been associated with rich, white men was not going to connect with voters in this historical election year."
No excuse.
"Whatever the reason, John McCain’s Hail Mary -- in the form of Vice Presidential pick Governor Sarah Palin -- sent a very clear message to America about how he views female voters. Women, he thinks, will vote another woman into office regardless of the candidate's values, experience and political positions."
She decries his choice, writing "The oldest Presidential nominee in history, chose a running mate -- a person that is just a heartbeat away from the Presidency -- that has no foreign policy experience, no national experience and limited state government experience…. a virtual unknown who has only been Governor for a less than 2 years of a state with a population of fewer than 680,000 people…a woman who condemns a woman’s right to choose."
The singer says McCain's ploy simply won't work. Keep reading to find out why...
"As someone who has spent over 40 years advocating on behalf of women both politically and philanthropically, as someone who was a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton and as someone who cares deeply about the health and welfare of all women, hear me Senator McCain: This calculated, cynical ploy to pull away a small percentage of Hillary's women voters from Barack Obama will not work. We are not that stupid!”
Barbra, who was a huge Hillary Clinton supporter, has switched to Barack Obama. She sang at a Hollywood fundraiser for the Democratic presidential candidate last night. The night's reception and dinner at Greystone Mansion cost $28,500 per person (250-300 attended) and was followed by an event at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel for 800 guests that featuring Streisand at $2,500 a ticket. Stars such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Jodie Foster, Will Ferrell, Leonardo DiCaprio and Steven Spielberg attended. The event raised $9 million, according to AP.
Is Streisand right? Are women voters not that stupid? Or are they smarter than she gives them credit for?
Weigh in!

Good job...i have been a Republican since voting Ronald Regan - I am done! We need to get out of the me-me-me, use it and abuse it mentality and start thinking about US!

As usual, the morally bankrupt Hollywood crowd just doesn't get it. Celebrities: we don't care who you vote for or what your liberal agenda is. On this point, Barbra is right. Women are not that stupid!

Hey Barbra,
Why so much anger? It makes you sound STUPID.
Posted by: dan | September 17, 2008 at 11:43 AM
She complains about rich white men, but what about RICH WHITE WOMEN like herself?
I wish she'd stick with her words and MOVE OUT OF HERE to PARIS where taxes are MUCH higher.

Obama has LESS executive leadership and LESS foreign Policy experience than Palin. Hm.

I could not care less what B.S. says or thinks, she and the lemmings who are following pied Obama off the cliff will desere what they get if he is elected, bigger goverment, more goverment spending, forced goverment controled health care, (and where do you think this money will come from?) time to wake up people!

Barbra is disgusting. It's one thing to back a candidate, another to call people stupid for their choice. How about a little respect, Babs?

THank you Barbra!
What kind of a statement is: "Is Streisand right? Are women voters not that stupid? Or are they smarter than she gives them credit for?" This is the type of twisting of words that belies a bias against Barbra.
Women are not as stupid as McCain thinks they are. Women are smarter than McCain thinks they are? Does that answer your question?
And Streisand is more qualified to be VP than Palin any day.

Ha! Because Barrack Obama has so much experience in foreign policy and state and national government. Please.

You sing it sister! Thank you for telling McCain what I have been thinking.

Well said Barbra! My sentiments exactly! And this is from both a woman and a life-long republican. I actually felt insulted that John McCain would think that I (as a woman voter) would cast my vote for just any old woman. Tsk Tsk Sir. I echo Barbra's thoughts exactly!!!

Unfortunately, most of the women I know who were for Hillary, are now voting Palin... even after I pointed out Palin's anti-choice position (To which I got blank stares as responses. They seem to be in denial.). I hope they wake up before it's too late.

Partisan talk from someone who's views are no more important then mine or yours. Are women smart enough not to believe what Streisand says just because she is a celebrity?
Posted by: R | September 17, 2008 at 11:51 AM
I don't believe it is simply a stupidity issue. More it is the fact that some women are convinced that there will not be another chance for a strong female candidate to be elected in their lifetimes. Unfortunately they think only of themselves and not the harm that having the wrong women in such a powerful office can do.
Posted by: =Dan | September 17, 2008 at 11:51 AM
So women won't cast their vote simply because the choice is another woman.. but blacks will cast their vote simply because a candidate is black...
some women aren't dumb = black voters are dumb?
Thx for clarifying that one, Barbie...
ps. you are still human communist scum, Barb. kthx

I too was a Republican until this administration opened my eyes to the pernicious and insatiable greed that the party has adopted. Together with Obama, we will take back America for the people and by the people.

Barbara needs to get over herself. She talks about rich white men, did she forget that she is a rich white women. Is she trying to tell all women that Palin is two steps away from the Presidency and Obama is one step to the Presidency and Palin has more experience that he has. But, she is right about one thing women are not that stupid, but we will not listen to rich white hollywood people who are not in touch with the real world. Shut up and sing or act... if you still can.

I am not a fan of Barbara's politics, but, I agree with her blog 100%. McCain , in my opinion did in fact try to persuade women to voye for him by choosing Palin. Who yes, lacks experience in many areas. Palin is an insult to women.I was voting for McCain until he put Palin on the ticket. By the way, how does a B.A in Journalism have anything to do with becoming a V.P? Either I have lost my mind, or this country has lost its core values. Who would vote for her?

A MESSAGE TO BARBA;
WOMEN ARE NOT THAT STUPID IS RIGHT. WE WOMEN DO NOT BELIEVE YOU SHOULD BE INVOLVED IN POLITICS BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT RUNNING A GOVERNMENT SO KEEP YOU STUPID MOUTH SHUT. JUST SING BABY SING (THAT IS, IF YOU STILL CAN SING).
MC CAIN AND PALIN, GO

McCain offends all thinking Americans.
Obama has my vote.

This white, middle class, married mother of 2 toddlers is NOT THAT STUPID!!!
Nevermind that I totally disagree with everything Palin stands for, I will not be blinded by McCain's trophy pick. I have no respect for a woman who calls herself a christian and then runs over anyone and anything who gets in the way of her own success. She has a VERY long history of firing anyone she dislikes or has the gall to question her. Then she replaces those people with her high school pals. Wasilla's school system must be amazing to have sooo many qualified people come out of it. I guess one thing is clear - if the nightmare happens and the McCain/Palin ticket get in, we know where her staff is coming from - Wasilla high school reunion at the white house - don't forget the keg!
These two are walking hypocrits - do Republicans who support this ticket just turn a blind eye to the fact that these two lie every day and then lie about lying despite the fact that it has been proven otherwise? I want a white house full of people with some bloody integrity - have our values become so low that we'll just vote in anybody?

she is dead on right....

No, women are not that stupid --unless they are the low information types who vote like they're told to by republican elitists. This is how we got George Bush, and this is how we'll get more of the same, unless people start to admire knowledge and truth, instead of mocking it.
