'Tropic Thunder' goes viral: 'Iron Man' kicks some Panda butt!

In case you missed this on the Web, here's Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black's viral video made for MTV's 2008 Movie Awards.

But the funniest guy in it is Stiller's "nephew" Carl and his review of "The Dark Knight" versus "Iron Man."

"It'll do. Until 'Dark Knight' comes up," he warns Downey. "Christian Bale would kick your...."

BTW, press buzz at last weekend's movie junket of "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" was that Tom Cruise totally steals "Tropic Thunder."

Yes, he's that good. Apparently, it's his best role since "Magnolia."

Cruise plays a fat, balding computer geek who backs the Vietnam action movie. In his all-too-short cameo, the actor shows off his dance moves (being called a hip-hop shimmy by "Access Hollywood"?) at a party for the movie.

No, he's not as hot as he was back in 1983 when he danced in "Risky Business." But he's funny.

Does Cruise have a comedy career? Let's hope so. Because his action hero star seems to be fading. And no one is looking forward to his historical Hitler drama "Valkyrie."

Watch this and see why.... Ugh.

The trailer looks pretty good to me. It sounds like your just parroting off whatever the prevalent mood swing of the media is. Get your own opinion for a change.

Dear viv

Um, that is my opinion. Sorry, but it really looks dreadful to me. Not my cuppa.

But if you liked the trailer, then you will probably love the new Cruise movie. Go see it when it comes out. But you may feel a bit lonely in the theatre!

Best,

Elizabeth

I agree with Viv, I think the press has been trying to destroy Valkyrie before it even gets released. You really shouldn't be so shallow Ms.Snead.I think it looks great.

Contrary to your opinion, I am very much looking forward to Valkyrie.

The script is excellent and extreme edge of your seat stuff, that I greatly enjoyed. The Cast is fantastic and the director very competent...and with a budget of 100M$, the production values are sure to be outstanding.

I am assuming your main problem with the trailer is that there is no German accents in the film...well I am here to tell you that German accents aren't necessary for this film.

It's like Tony Montana in Scarface having to speak accented English because he is in America. Makes sense... he's in a foreign country other than his own.

Now if the movie took place all in Cuba, I wouldn't expect him or any actors to use Cuban accents. Its understood where they are. English is only a matter of getting across the plot.

When a film is set in somewhere like Germany and the cast are speaking english with no accent, I think "Oh they're speaking German because everyone can understand everyone. German people understand each other perfectly and this way I understand them perfectly so it's like I too am speaking German." It helps to draw you into the world. But when they're speaking English in Germany with a GERMAN ACCENT I think "Why the hell are these Germans struggling to speak English in Germany?". It's the major thing that killed Hannibal Rising for me (That and all the other horrible things it did).

What about "Hitler: The Last 10 Days?" Many people (myself included) consider Alec Guiness' portrayal of Hitler to be one of, if not the best ever put to film. As I recal, the cast is nearly all Brisith speaks with English accents, but the effect is riveting. (Did Guiness speak with a Russian accent in Dr. Zivago? I cant recall, but don't think so.)

Sure, in a perfect world they'd all really speak German with subtitles. But if you can't have that have normal English not some damn fence sitting crap.

If the script is good and the acting first rate, I'm willing to accept any accent they use. If they aren't, then there isn't any authenticity that's going to save a second or thrid-rate movie.
