Olympic gold medalist Amanda Beard bares all for PETA
Olympian Amanda Beard strips off her swimsuit for a good cause.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist joins celebrities such as Alicia Silverstone and Eva Mendes who have also bared it all for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
The new ad features Beard next to the tagline: "Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin. Don't Wear Fur." She's set to unveil the ad on Wednesday, just days before the kickoff of the Olympic Games in Beijing.
"[T]o see animals … slaughtered to be worn as fashion is awful to me, so I'm definitely against wearing fur," said Beard in a statement released by PETA.
So does she have any regrets about posing nude?
"No. I'd much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body," Beard said.

Isn't this getting old? Naked for Peta I mean. Yawn.

Amanda Beard says "I'd much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body."
But she wears leather and sheepskin.
Just another PETA hypocrite.

"No. I'd much rather go naked than ever put a dead animal on my body," Beard said.
Hmmmmm .... Then what's with all the leather and sheepskin she wears? Does PETA know she's a regular animal-skin-wearing person like the rest of us? Or are they just attention-whoring hypocrites?
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner....

PETA "Kills" Animals
How appropriate that PETA uses naked women to shower in cities around the country and around the world. Yesterday two PETA employees were showering in Fresno and today they are showering in San Francisco.
For the record, by their own admission, PETA "killed" 97% of the dogs and cats in their shelter last year. Animals were surrendered or brought to their shelter for other reasons and were immediately euthanized and their bodies tossed in the local Piggly Wiggly trash dumpsters despite promises to their owners that their beloved companion animals would be adopted into new homes.
Perhaps these nude women can wash off the BLOOD from all of the animals that are victims of PETA's killing.
PETA is "not" about "ethical treatment" of animals. They are a lobbying organization that takes in millions of dollars every year from people that "think" PETA is really doing something for animals in shelters.
Not true!
The group put to death over 90 percent of the animals it took in during the last five years. And its angel-of-death pattern shows no sign of changing.
Additionally, PETA has financially supported animal rights terrorists such as Rod Coronado and continues to approve of their methods. They are connected with ALF (Animal Liberation Front). The ALF has recently spoken out about the two firebombings that occurred in Santa Cruz, CA, a few days ago. They see nothing wrong with using fire and other scare tactics against medical researchers.

Why does anyone think that it's unethical to put an animal down or many animals down? The Humane Society probably has a much higher death rate than PETA shelters and do you think they are a bad organization? "Ethical" is subjective. Let's have a discourse around what's ethical rather than spew weak minded rhetoric about athletes or organizations.

"The Humane Society probably has a much higher death rate than PETA shelters and do you think they are a bad organization?"
Why no, actually very few shelters have as high a death rate as PeTA. 97% is tough to beat.
HSUS is a $130 million organization that is paying lobbyists to push laws around the country right now that have always, every time implemented, caused shelter animal intakes to increase, shelter animal deaths to increase, pet licensing to decrease, and rabies vaccinations to decrease because people become afraid to take their animals to veterinarians.
HSUS' pres is a former PeTA VP. PeTA's goal is the elimination of all contact with animals. Hey Amanda: PeTA says no more pets for you!

PETA's goal is now the elimination of all contact with animals? I thought their goal was ethical treatment of animals? Suppose it were better for animals to have no contact with humans, would that be such a bad thing then? If you care so much about animals wouldn't you want what's best for them?

PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her group’s overall goal as “total animal liberation.” This means no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no wool, no leather, no hunting, no fishing, and no pets (not even seeing-eye dogs).
PETA is also against all medical research that requires the use of animals. They have repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases.
Newkirk has said that “even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it.”
PETA activists regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda often waiting outside their schools. Do you want these animal rights activists visiting your child on the way to school? They intentionally gear many of their campaigns toward children.

The way they hung the flag is unpatriotic and flies in the face of what Amanda's trying to do for her country at the Olympics. Awful.

I'd wear that any day.

Too bad PETA is a worthless organization.
Support the humane society.

"[T]o see animals … slaughtered to be worn as fashion is awful to me"
I've never seen an animal slaughtered for this purpose, I wear animals all the time. In fact animals are one of the best renewable resources. I mean, is she hanging out in slaughterhouses? sick.
I guess PETA doesn't understand that in a capitalistic world concerned about economics, if there was zero demand for animal products.... there would eventually be zero animals. Some animals have won the genetic lottery by being useful to humans. The only thing PETA understands is how to rake in the cash from misdirected animal lovers.
I'm glad Ms Beard shaved, I don't want to see her wearing fur either.

I personally like the other PETA.
people for eating of tasty animals.

She's trying to do something she and others think is positive? I'm going to Google her to find things to criticize. That's much easier than actually doing something positive myself.
Posted by: noparty | August 06, 2008 at 08:36 AM
She's just a skank looking for a cause to identify herself with and a good excuse to get naked.

You PETA haters make no sense. You are all either threatened financially by PETA's agendas or even more pathetically you're looking for justification for your murderous lack of empathy for other living creatures. The Chinese brutally attack and skin even cats and dogs and they'll have no qualms about serving it up to you. I hope if you go to the Olympics you'll at least have the sense to bring your own food. I won't be watching. The Chinese government has no regard for anyone's rights, human or otherwise.

It definately looks like these Peta-haters are passionate. I chalk it up to guilt/shame.
fwiw: PETA fights for ethical treatment of animals; they are not, nor have ever claimed to be, a no-kill abandoned pet shelter. If you can't see the difference, that's just too bad.
Posted by: Dan | August 06, 2008 at 10:55 AM
she posed naked because PETA figured shed be one of the few american olympians that would do it, considering she already posed naked for playboy. so whether or not she wears animals, probably no one cares because they were just trying to make and ad.

Does it bother anyone else that the flag is hung incorrectly in this photo? The stars with blue background is always supposed to be in the top left quarter however the flag is displayed.

"The two-time Olympic gold medalist joins celebrities such as Alicia Silverstone and Eva Mendes who have also bared it all for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)."
Large pet peeve... "baring it all" does not equate to taking an artistic photo while covering your genitalia. She's as nude as someone in a swimsuit- we don't say they're "baring it all", do we? No.
Posted by: Jaym | August 06, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Now THAT is a body worth baring!!

The picture took about 40 hours of airbrushing.
Having your own agenda on a world stage is very petty.
No class.

anon, yes it bugs the living crap out of me that they huing the flag incorrectly. I carry around a business card I printed that indicates the correct ways to display the American Flag, and when I see someone displaying it incorrectly, I l leave a card in their door, or if in a car, I leave it on their windshield. I can't believe they let this ad campaign go through with that kind of error.
Posted by: Rhyno86 | August 07, 2008 at 07:02 AM
The flag is backward. Whether the flag is hung vertically or horizontally, the Union (Blue Field w/ Stars) should be positioned to the top left, like our hearts.
Shame on the lame ass ad agency that put this drivel together just to make a buck. Shame on PETA for being PETA. Guarantee no Eagle Scout has ever been employed by them in the history of the organization.

Having the life of Cindy Crawford could be an impossible dream, but looking like she does at the age of 42 could somehow turn to reality. She was generous to let us take a look at her daily workout routine and diet at http://www.projectweightloss.com and I am really grateful! She is a great person!

Death is death and if you can't see that than too bad. PETA are full of hypocrites. Why don't you remark on those in that organization who use medicines tested on animals or any of the many other double standards PETA does. Either it is murder or it isn't you can't pretty it up.
Posted by: Lou | August 08, 2008 at 10:41 AM
I noticed the flag as well....what a disgrace.
If you're going to do somehting like this, and expect to be take seriously, at least do it right.
Show some respect for your right to speak freely about your concern!

Nice picture, but it has nothing to do with PETA.
Against fur? Good think PETA supporter's ancestors liked fur or the PETA supporters wouldn't be here :)
Of more interest to most viewers is the fact that those photographed are ...
1. Naked Women;
2. Furless;
3. Attractive;
4. ...
"Be attractive in your own skin." I can hear people everywhere saying, "I am even if I do wear fur..."
Why does PETA think that "if you are comfortable in your own skin" then you won't use "fur?"
Perhaps the lack of meat is affecting their thinking...
Posted by: Counsel | August 12, 2008 at 06:10 AM
It's all for publicity.
People like to look at celebrities involved in such organizations and think "Now there's someone good doing good with their fame."
If killing animals was considered the "humane" or popular thing to do, then you'd see folks like this posing nude (or covered in animal skin) for the cause.
Plus peta is giving her a bunch of money to do this. People just don't say "no" to money. (there are folks eating testicles on TV for money)
As many have already stated, yes, the flag is backwards. Figures.
