Mary-Kate Olsen won't be forced to talk to DEA. Is it case closed?
Mary Kate Olsen will not have talk to the nasty DEA about where her close friend Heath Ledger may have gotten the drugs that killed him in January.
His body was found In his New York apartment by Olsen's masseuse, who then called Mary-Kate, who promptly sent over her bodyguards instead of an ambulance.
According to a story from the Associated Press, a law enforcement official said Wednesday that federal prosecutors in the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan have decided not to pursue a criminal case into Ledger's drug-related death.
This followed the reports earlier this week that Mary-Kate had refused to talk to the Drug Enforcement Administration without immunity. The DEA had obtained a subpoena that could have forced Olsen to talk.
She denied any knowledge of Ledger drug connections.
But the subpoena, which was issued in April, is now toothless and useless because the prosecutors will not continue to pursue the case, according to the official.
With the prosecutors out of the picture, the DEA is off the case. And Mary-Kate is off the hook.
What do you think? Is this for the best? Should the DEA leave that poor l'il Olsen twin alone?
Or will we always wonder what Mary Kate knew? And why she wanted immunity...

Are you kidding me?!?! If this was any lower or middle class American they would have been taken in for questioning immediately and if they didn't talk, would have been charged with obstruction of justice. I don't know how just because she has millions of dollars she can just wash her hands of the whole situation. It really is sad to see things like this taking place time and time again with no repercussions what so ever.

She is too rich to have to worry about this kind of thing. The laws are made for poor people. Stop bothering this lady. She's immune to the drug laws and everybody knows that.

As scared as Olsen was and how quickly the case was shut down by the feds reminds me of the movie "The Bank Job." Makes you wonder which politician's kid was involved.

Was the headline written by you sub-contractor in India? "But it is case closed?"??????

The justice system has little to do with the truth. It is about who has more money and who is willing to blink first.
Her refusal to talk without full immunity was smart. It was checkmate. The government had no other choice.

We will always wonder what Mary Kate knows and why she wanted immunity. What is she hiding?

In this entertaining 27 minute video, Law professor James Duane explains why innocent people should NEVER talk to the police.

She's obivously guilty. Once somebody starts hiding behind lawyers and statutes to just avoid talking to the police, how hard is to see she is guilty?
Okay... fine, she's another Hollywood elite who just got away with murder. Just like OJ.
Congratulations, lame-a**ed legal system. You sure are protecting our "rights".

Yes. This case is closed. Officially. Closed.

She's an anorexic druggie. She will it eat alive on the inside so justice will be served.

Just because someone chooses not to answer a question, it does not indicate guilt.
Oh and by the way, she did answer in the public forum. She says she had nothing to do with his death. Until someone shows some hard evidence otherwise, I'm willing to take her word for it.

It was good sound legal advice. Never talk to law enforcement without legal representation. Come on, it's not that you have something to hide it's that law enforcements and the media are to quick to judge and prosecute without due process.

Any lawyer would have advised Mary Kate to invoke her right not to incriminate herself, and law enforcement would have to respect that right.
The view expressed by posters that she is "above the law" is uninformed. She simply deployed well-settled law toward a very predictable result.

"What is she hiding?"
Judging by that picture, not much.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she is going to walk away. Though she may have had a helping hand in killing a wonderful actor, she gets to walk away. I Hope she sleeps well at night knowing that a family is missing their son, and a daughter her father.

typical. money talks. i think its funny that her only worry is not whether she could have potentially "saved" him but instead weather drugs would be tied to her name. shame on her. but if you look into her blank stare, and waife like physique you'll spot the ambiance of sociopath, and don't worry they always get sloppy and end up getting theirs.

Obviously guilty of what??? You people are nuts. She's famous, and the press is up her butt. She's right to keep quiet. She says nothing, the press can't hold anything against her. Wasn't she not even in the same state as this dumbass anyhow?? Shame on any of you for assuming she's got something to do what yet another junkie losing control and drugging themselves to death. It's no one's fault but his own.

tip: if you're going to slam the editing of the headline or story, be sure your posting doesn't contain an even more egregious error. peace.

Smart girl. She knew the "authorities" were looking to pin this on the nearest handy warm body and didn't want it to be her.
She'll go far in today's world with that sort of sensible outlook.

As fun as it is to be cynical and say things like "If this was any lower or middle class American they would have been taken in for questioning immediately and if they didn't talk, would have been charged with obstruction of justice," that's actually not the case at all. Mary-Kate did what any smart person would do. She has the right to the 5th amendment and it is wise for you to use it whenever you may possibly be considered a suspect, *even if you know you are entirely innocent.* Bobby already mentioned this, but there's a video that is REALLY worth watching: to see a lecture that argues this point by a law professor (and then reiterated by a cop), go to http://www.tuccille.com/blog/2008/07/eight-reasons-even-innocent-shouldnt.html

Olsen's rich. That's all you need to know about why she gets a pass. Don't try this little bodyguard maneuver yourself, po' folk.
