Shia LaBeouf didn't cause car wreck. But he does have daddy issues.

Authorities now say that Shia LaBeouf was not to blame for the early Sunday morning crash.

Instead, fault is being found with the other driver, who apparently ran a red light.

But Shia's not out of the woods. He was booked on a misdemeanor DUI. And a recent interview with Shia about his relationship with booze and his dad may shed light on his recent behavior.

In the new September issue of Details, Shia, 22, talks about his father, 60, a former heroin addict and Vietnam vet who reportedly spends summers living in Montana in a tepee.

"We used to drink together and smoke together," the actor told the mag. "And it's just a bad deal. It's not something that is conducive to being a role model — no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don't know how to do it like a gentleman. I don't know how to have one drink."

His dad also took him to a 12-step meeting as a child. In June he told Arena Magazine: "I grew up around a lot of aggressive guys. My parents used to take me to AA meetings when I was very young. So I know aggression, I know insanity."

His relationship with his father is still unusual and complicated.

During an interview this year on "Live with Regis and Kelly," Shia explained,  "My dad lives in a tepee, and he gets cold, so he comes up to my house for the winters and stays in the garage. He's got an air mattress set up for him; it's very comfortable."

Just not in the actual main house — that would be too close, says Shia. "I love him, but we have similar tastes. Living in close proximity, we get into little battles. Over the fridge, over supplies, just everyday average stuff. Toothpaste, clean towels. ... It becomes a little overbearing, so we keep him in the garage."

He keeps his dad in the garage. Wow. That explains a lot.

Sounds like Shia and dad have a codependent thing going. They should keep their distance from each other for maximum mental health.

Just what we need. Another Hollywood celebrity who will endanger other people' lives yet skirt the law and get off with a slap on the wrist.. I'm personally tired of these thankless punks.

I AGREE WITH YOU A LOT OF CELEBRITIES GET AWAY WITH SO MUCH STUFF, BUT DUDE IF YOU CAN READ ALL IT SAYS IS HE DIDN'T CAUSE THE ACCIDENT. HE DID GET BOOK ON THE DUI ~AND~ HE DIDN'T FLEE THE SEEN OF THE ACCIDENT WHEN URGED SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO GIVE THIS "PUNK" A LITTLE CREDIT. AND CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY YOU HAVE NEVER DROVE WITH AT LEAST ONE BEER IN YOUR SYSTEM????

I so agree with Emily! Also this kid has had a rough life and look where he is now and he is able to admit what is going on and aknowoledge that he has a problem. He is not just trying to act as if none of this ever happened and not face the facts of his life. He is a good guy and deserves A LOT more credit than some of you are giving him. Get off his back and quit being a jealous jerk!

Daddy issues? Throw the freeloader* right into the street – adios, papa!

Alcohol issues? Give me the keys, and you can drink all you want – cheers!

Charisma issues? Uh, sorry, can't help you with that one...

*An air mattress... in the garage? And everyone thinks the Bale family is dysfunctional!

All the stuff about his father is part of Shia's talkshow comedy routine. Not intended to be Freudian couch potato confessions.

Omg..shia labeouf is so hott
