Rapper Nas tells Jesse Jackson, 'Your time is up!'
Guess who's taken Barack Obama's side against Jesse Jackson?
The Rev. Jackson, as you may or may not recall, was caught on videotape this week whispering during a Fox News interview saying, "See, Barack's been, um, talking down to black people on this faith-based ... I want to cut his ... off."
His words have angered many in the black community. He has apologized. Barack has accepted. But rapper Nas told MTV that the civil rights leader is finished.
"I think Jesse Jackson, he's the biggest player hater," Nas said. "His time is up. All you old ..., time is up. We heard your voice, we saw your marching, we heard your sermons. We don't wanna hear that ... no more. It's a new day. It's a new voice. I'm here now. We don't need Jesse; I'm here. I got this. We got Barack, we got David Banners and Young Jeezys. We're the voice now. It's no more Jesse. Sorry. Goodbye. You ain't helping nobody in the 'hood. That's the bottom line. Goodbye, Jesse. Bye!"

Nas is helping people in the hood? Perhaps as a soundtrack to the despair. I think Young Jeezy's music was playng during the last drive by assasination in my neighborhood...
Jesse has long been a grandstanding fool, but Nas may soon replace him... was Kanye busy that day? Good luck folks. Talk minus Action = zero

Good for Nas! To me, it seems like Jesse Jackson wants the black people to stay depressed and trapped in a 1960's mentality. How else would anyone listen to his tired shit?
Posted by: bcmg77 | July 11, 2008 at 12:22 PM
No Nas, Hip-Hop is finished. Jesse has done and continue to do more than you and Jeezy ever will! So I say, goodbye to you and your music!!
Posted by: Mike | July 11, 2008 at 12:29 PM
Jesse's comments were reprehensible, and he most certainly is stuck in the past. But part of the problem with us today some actually think that Nas, David Banner and Young Jeezy are in the same class as Jesse Jackson.
No rapper has ever sacrificed as much, seen as much, or worked as hard to improve the plight of blacks in America as Jesse Jackson. He's not perfect, and yes his time has probably come, but Nas, Banner and Jeezy are not his equals.

It's way past the time for JJ to go away. He's no better than Imus. He's an individual with individual goals. All he wants to do is complain and take credit for anything he can. This is the crux of the problem. Each race acts different toward the other when they're showing off in a group, than when it's a decent one on one conversation or relationship. I was a victim of this insincerity, long ago, before being forced to the same just to fit in.

Nas is here now? Well aren't we all lucky. Somebody should tell this moron that he hasn't done jack in his life compared to Jesse, no matter how stupid Jacksons comments were. What an inflated ego some of these guys have.
Posted by: CJ | July 11, 2008 at 01:07 PM
I think it's time for both Jesse and Al Sharpton to go away. They are nothing but old relics that are doing nothing but hurting "The Cause" they claim to be fighting for. I think they only care about their own pockets now days.
Posted by: Mike | July 11, 2008 at 01:07 PM
Its not what Nas is claiming to be its what Jackson is. Jackson has always been a wannabe
always sucking up the glory for the sacrafices others have made, blackmaiing corporate America with his own agenda of power it goes on and on

I am a white person and I have always admired Jesse Jackson's courage and his message to all the American people .Unfortunately, he will never be a president and maybe his time is up but he did pave the way for the future generation of black politicians. One mistake should not efface his life long achievements. Those rappers who criticize him foolishly should just shut up because they are ignorant and they never did anything decent for their communities .
Their music stinks and they are a bad example for our youth (both black and white) to follow.

I love America, it's a nation of freedom. Many citizens here discourage the image of freedom by pointing out major flaws like the economy, injustice in the court system etc. Try living in any other nation under any other government for just one week. Aside from western influenced nations such as Canada, and Great Britain, I can assure anyone they would miss America by the end of the first day. We aren't perfect at all. But we ARE the most independent and free nation in the entire planet. Consider that for a minute. So hearing fellow African Americans rudely commenting about any kind of movement is absurd to me. This is 2008. A BLACK man is preparing to enter the most important position in the entire world. The U.S.A. has a major influence on just about every nation, whether positive or negative. When are we going to forget about our treatment from the 1960's on back? I look like you, I dress like you, yet I feel secure in the U.S.A. Its not about the choices others make for us, its about the choices WE make for ourselves. Kanye, Jesse, and Spike are all a shame to our community, white or black. Spike accuses a reknowned film producer of being racist for not including black people. I haven't seen the movies but I'm willing to bet there isn't any Native Americans, Asians, Hispanics and so forth...maybe I'm off on that, but I can't remember the last movie I saw with Native Americans that wasn't ABOUT Native Americans. Yet, they didn't complain. Complaining shows weakness. Bottom line, get over it and move on and make a future for everyone.

THANK YOU NAS!
Jesse Jackson makes a living by promoting a 60s mentality, shackeling up black people to a never ending struggle.
The time to fight has ended for many parts of the country. We already got inside the house. Now is the time where we just work and gain power. Continuously against whites REALLY just keeps black folk from focusing on themselves. You cannot develop in a perpetual struggle, and that is the real crime against black people.

it wasn't that long ago, when Jesse was caught cheating on his wife. he denied it, eventually ended-up admitting it. he apologized to his wife, then to the church, however, never apologized to the people who he was suposed to be standing up for. i never gave into his crap, in the first place, since i've always thought of "faith-based" leaders to be full-of-crap, anyways. nothing, but a bunch of pirates. thanks for nothing, jesse!!

Let's be clear here,Nas that is ignorance on it's highest level.A clear indication that we as black people unlike any other race on the planet have a harder time with generational divides probably more than other .There's a saying called pass the baton to the next Gen,not throw it in the trash.I think what's displayed here between Jesse and Barrack is an unwillingness to accept that guard shift. You are right Nas to a certain degree, but i emplore you to find a more positive way to deliver your point.
Posted by: Robert | July 11, 2008 at 01:31 PM
In many ways rapper Nas is correct. Having grown up in a city adjacent to Compton for a good 18 years you can see it everywhere in the streets and homes of people that used to listen when Jesse Jackson spoke, or when Al Sharpton would make a point, people are just tired of it, they are tired of being labeled victims. Both Mexican and African Americans have move passed these aging political figures in favor of newer more relevant idols. Now we favor people like Kobe Bryant, or, Allen Iverson, and Kanye West, not because we are dumb, but because they speak to us every day, they are the new anthems broadcast throughout the neighborhoods that need them the most. The same for Obama, whom isn’t from the old school, now turned self promoter for a dollar, to the tune of Jesse Jackson. As much as I hate the state of rap music today, Nas is right, and Jesse should exit quietly.

They are all a bunch of usless CLOWNS...!

Wow, some people never get it and will always be duped. Sheep comes to mind. "How can we hold one mistake against him when he's done so much good". Yeah, one mistake...now that's deep. And then there's "It's fox news! They set him up." Yep, Fox News forced him to say what he did. It's what you do when no one is looking which defines who you are. Get over it, that's the real Jackson. Quit blaming Fox News, white people, and on and on you sheep...dumb sheep.

Can we please show a little respect for Rev. Jackson? He was standing up for all of us (that's everyone) when things were even worse than now (politically speaking). Rev. Jackson is entitled to his opinion, as we all are, here in the U.S.. I think sneaky tactics to stir up conflict are what we should really be focusing on and how to look past the manipulations; not what Rev. Jackson says what should have been in private. He's a good man and should not be portrayed so negatively. God bless you Rev. Jackson and thank you for your inspired work.

While I applaud Mr. Jackson's early Civil Rights activities and accomplishments, he unfortunately has done more damage to the black community this last decade than good. While Obama discussed the absence of father's in the black community, Mr. Jackson himself is an absent father to his daughter Ashley born out of wed-lock in 1999. Mr. Jackson should take a note from Barack Obama, Bill Cosby and Oprah Winfrey as to people proud of their heritage and don't exploit the past of it. This is 2008, the color lines have blurred with our younger generation. It is only people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and Jeremiah Wright are living in the past and bringing up old wounds that should be healed ... but hey, to them it's just a living.

Okay Young Jeeze and David Banner?!?!?? Really? Those malt liqour swigging wanna-be singing thugs?!?!?
Seriously. What Jesse Jackson said didn't suprise me because he's an obvious politician and does in fact care more about his personal career than this nation or black people. It is Jesse Jackson's job is to schmooze and slime his way around like any other politician. It's how he's paid his bills for the last 40 years and I would bet you money he does coke and sleeps with white women. Don't be surprised if you see that on headline news in the summer of '09.

Hey DDquick, what good has he done?
You know that Bill Cosby has been saying the same thing as Obama for a longer period of time. does jesse jackson want his nuts too?
It's time for new leadership for Black minorities. Ones that actually care about the black race and it's integration into a new, really free, and equal America.

NAS is right. Jesse needs to step down and let the new generation speak for themselves. But we should never forget what Jesse and Company have done. neva eva....But barack is part of the new generation, and he is running for president, (I am still overjoyed about that). he speaks for the new hip hop generation. Not all hip hop is bad. Barack has the right to say what he feels...just like I am right now...That is not talking down...it is talking up and leading people up..Don't give up on "HOPE' that is keeping hope alive..Stay frosty ya'll..Peace

Still waiting for Jackson and Sharpton to apologize to the Duke lacrosse players. It's funny, they're both ready to yell racist and the "man" is holding down our race, but when they're wrong, what then. Race always has, and always will, be a problem. If you don't believe this, look at religion. Same thing. How many brands of Christianity are there? Why so many?

Alrighty then...
So here are my credentials:
I am a minority.
I served my country in the United States Marine Corps in combat.
I have been to more than my share of thrid world countries.
I grew up in a neighborgood outside of Los Angeles watching latino gangs beat each other up for land they'll NEVER own. Then the Crips and Bloods moved in and they shot most of each other off so the Latinos could come back and claim what had been taken from them.
So...Now that we have that out of the way.
I truly feel sorry for the nations black community. You lost your true leader long ago and before his time. What has come in his wake are nothing but opportunists and liars dressing themselves in the guise of unity. Even more unfortunate is the fact that you follow them.
Mr. Obama, I'm sorry to say, is no better. This country could truly use a strong minority leader; wheather black, latino, or some other race. Barack is not that man. The sad thing is, our nations minorities will flock to the polls for nothing other than the color of his skin.
I for one will for the first time in my patriotic life will sit in my home on election day. For the first time since old enough to vote I will sit and watch as this country makes the single biggest mistake in the hisory of a presidential election. I will sit in my home that I will never own and watch this country commit suicide in the slowest and most painful of ways - Death by Ignorance.
Perhaps it is time to move to another country - one with no rights or privileges. At least I would know what to expect and anything beyond that is a blessing and cherished.
False leaders and rappers who peddle sex, drugs and violence through music claiming they can be the voice of a race who's spirit has already been trampled one too many times is enough for me to handle.
I pray for all of us...

Lol one mistake let's see every single thing Jesse and Al ever show up turns icky quick. Take Jena 6 for an example they beat an kid unconcious and continued beating. In my state white or black 12 or 27 that's attempted murder. Yes it all started over a bunch of people being racist morons, but that does not excuse people to beat others who had no involvement in the first place. Al and Jesse should be charged with Hate crimes because all they do every time they open their mouths is spew it out and remind us about ALL of our past stupidity only causing the hate to fester up again.
And ya wanna talk about hate crimes if a white person were to even put 10% of the stuff that rappers put in their videos there would be a massive outcry.
And for christ sakes stop playing that Soulja Boy shit your not a soldier your a whiny lonely bitch whose parents are to busy smoking crack and dealing drugs just like all the rap songs tell you to do.

White supremacy is not a mentality. It's a material reality. Obama aims to give people a mythology of racial harmony instead of a strategy for changing the conditions of structural inequality. At least Jesse has some understanding of the reality of racism in the US. Ah, but Nas will save us. Good grief.

Yes, I was appalled to hear the comments made by the Reverend Jesse Jackson about Senator Barack Obama.
But, he apologized for his terrible comments and Senator Obama accepted his apology.
I would not say that Reverend Jackson is finished. Everybody makes mistakes that they later regrets.
This rapper NAS is in the DARK!!!!! If it weren't for the civil rights leaders and activists back in the 1960's fighting for equality and justice for black people, NAS would not be where he is right now.
I shutter to think about NAS and his group helping to better the lives of African Americans.
How dare you group yourself with Senator Obama.
NAS needs to apologize to the Reverend Jesse Jackson just like the Reverend Jesse Jackson apologized to Senator Barack Obama.
P.S. Pray for one another not fight against each other.

To the poster who said Jesse was "duped" by fox......are you losing your mind? Barack simply spoke to blacks asking them to take more personal responsibility for their actions. Jesse Jackson calls this "talking down" to blacks. It goes to show that jesse Jackson thrives on keeping blacks disenfranchised. Also, Jackson implied physical harm to the democratic presidential candidate. Why wasn't he taken aside and questioned by the secret service? Dom Imus makes an off-the-cuff remark about "nappy headed hoes" and gets to lose his job. Jesse Jackson threatens physical harm and no one bats an eye. I agree that Fox is reprehensible generally speaking but they weren't the ones who put the words in Jesse's mouth. jesse did that. Not Fox.
Posted by: CitizenLand | July 11, 2008 at 03:32 PM
I agree with Nas. He's not alone in this sort of thinking. Jesse Jackson is a two-faced player who has made profit from the old "slavery" mentality that today's youth and today's generation has overcome. He will become a forgotten voice and the truth of his motives that have been hidden for too long will come to surface. Wake up people, Jesse Jackson is no reverand, Jesse is not for the black people of this country unless there is some kind of a profit $$$ for him.

Nas made a good point. Jesse had his time. It is funny how most of these so-called black leaders are hating on Sen. Obama. Tavis Smiley was hating, Jesse Jackson hating, half of the Congressional Black Caucus was hating. Why because Sen. Obama did it his way. He didn't seek their approval, he got with a team that believed in him.
Jesse is mad because he is not a factor in the Obama Campaign. The older generation really has two option.
1. Help groom young black politicans without any hating or hidden agenda.
2. Or just fall back, because it is nothing you can do about it.
Obama '08 don't hate!!!

What omnipotence on the part of NAS. Give the guy a microphone and now he thinks he is someone of importance. The guy is an entertainer;obviously not that great either, because his name is not exactly a household name. I can't say i condone the actions of Jesse Jackson, but he was duped by the press, if I were him I'd being jacking up the reporter who divulged the information. When haven't one of us said something bad about a politician? There isn't a day that goes by that I don't. If this were not an election year and it weren't about a nominee this would be a non issue. Fact is, It is all just a reux, to gain sympathy for Obama. As for Ass, I mean Nas, you better grow outta your short pants before you go claiming to be an idol on the world's stage. This whole scenario goes to show that FOX News and their surrogates (I think that's more suitable) has absolutely no credibility. You invite a man as a guest...he makes a supposedly private comment (stupid as it may be) and they air it for all. ABSOLUTELY NO CREDIBILITY OR DECENCY. That's why they employ the like of Hannity. The problem with Hannity isn't that he so blatantly biased but that he's so stupid not to think that it's reflected in his ranting!

I'm a white 61 year old man. I don't think Nas ever experienced the racism that abounded in America in the 60's. Jessie should step aside, but never doubt his integrity and dedication. He marched where people were shooting guns, throwing rocks, spitting & more.
He not only paid his dues, he also helped pave the road.
It's like saying Abraham Lincoln's time has come and gone. It has, but does that mean that we forget what he did?

I do not know who this man-boy naz is. One thing I can say the damage from slavery to now" has come to fruitation The self-hate, self denial, and the Black disrespect we have for one another has much rooted mental illness'. What Jesse Jackson said was wrong'. However, he did pave the way for Barack Obama and he should be proud not competitve, nor jealous. We need to pass the baton and realize that the new and younger generation reached Dr. Kings dream by and through the struggles of the older generation and spawned Barack Obama. Be respectful, honor your elders just as you would want someone to respect your mother who is older than you! We are once young but grow old". Any accomplishment a Negroe,Black,Afro-African American attains we should rejoice! As long as we do not get to haughty! with it. Let us have Black Unity" Not Black Hate".

This is just sad. There's a chance that Obama may actually pull something amazing off. It's a historic event that might pave the way for Black Americans (and all others) to see that any American can lead this country & make a difference. It's an opportunity for a "minority" citizen to achieve the most important role on the planet... and it's being undermined by someone who's supposedly spent their life to make it happen. I am seriously disappointed in Rev. Jesse Jackson. There's an opportunity to break a barrier & open a door, and he's more concerned with "Keeping it real" and his failed bids for the job. Obama is trying to be the best American he can be, intelligent and educated, not be the most "Black" American. This "Black" thing we're being fed is pure crap. The Goals of a people should not be about being The Entertainment (sports/music) or being Criminals. I can't think of many notable Black Americans that didn't fall into these two categories, other than GW Carver or Shirley Chisholm. I for one, want Obama to be respected by the America people first & the World second. The past 3 presidents have made America look incompetent or immoral (or both). I don't care if Obama represents Black America. If he EARNS the respect of America & the World, we will all have a chance. It's time for all Americans to be Americans, and let the past be history. We will never be part of One Nation if we keep segregating ourselves.

NAS, what do you sing about? What are you doing to help the black community? Will you step in and fill the shoes (and more) Jesse Jackson should he step aside? Do that - And you have something to talk or rant about.
To Jesse Jackson: What do your words tell you about what you've become as a Christian, a man and an activist for the struggling?

Jesse Jackson is an opportunistic liar, a false preacher (he flunked out of theological studies and only pays lip service to Christianity, the same as Bush) and a borderline criminal (usually the wrong side of the border) who through his brother, had dealings with the El Ruken gang in Chicago. These are the guys who wanted to take down military facilities and knock down airliners for Libyan money. He's been unfaithful to his wife and jumps down everybody's throat at the slightest hint of criticism against the black community, as if being black was some kind of disorder whose sufferers must be coddled and protected from the cruel and insenstivie world at large. Meanwhile he says he wants to cut a presidential candidate's nuts off. He's a petty gangster. I recently read the guy actually stained his shirt and claimed it was Dr. King's blood, when in fact he hid for 20 minutes after the shooting and only emerged when the reporters got there. Make no mistake, he only marched with King to further his own ends. He holds black people back. I want to believe in Obama, but have very little faith in anybody who champions the two party system and makes a career as a politician. We don't need career politicians, we need real people who have an understanding of what it means to work for a living. I suppose Obama will be elected because the majority of minorities will vote for him solely based upon his race, which in and of itself is racist. When will people come to understand that white, yellow, black, or brown, we are taught to believe in and sustain these racial divisions by a higher economic caste so that we can never unite and rise to depose their rule? Gas prices continue to inexplicably rise so we are rendered immobile in our communities, and we are content to sit home and watch increasingly mind numbing TV and smoke ever more potent pot. As to Nas, he and the sadly out of touch popular hip hop community only serve to propagate unfortunate stereotypes with their insistence on reveling in negativity and promoting a nominally criminal and decadent worldview. I long ago gave up listening to mainstream rap music because of the rampant ignorance that has steadily become "cool" since the genre's golden age in the 90's (back when black people strove to be intelligent and cultural - when they spearheaded artistic trends instead of spinning their wheels with endlessly recycled crap). We are all of us in a bad fix and will take more than another Democrat to inspire us to get out of it. I wish Obama would choose Nader as his running mate. Before you roll your eyes go look the man up. He says all the things you want to hear, but you'll never hear it watching MSNBC. I suppose though, he will choose Hillary, in which case I won't be voting for him.

LOL @ whites, they elect hollywood actors Jesse Ventura, Arnold, Ronnie Reagan but a rapper or musician can't say what he thinks, you people are the reason why America is dying slowly, nobody cares what yall think LOL you and your music (that you stole from blacks) has become irrelevant LOL. The same way you view Nas is the same way hip-hop views your liars/leaders. Jesse Jackson lost my respect for even going on the racist Sly FOX network, he's a camera whore and he's done now. Nas for president!!!!!!!!!!!!
