Where'd Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie get those baby names?
Unusual celebrity baby names are in the news again with this weekend's birth of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's twins.
Not Isla Marcheline and Amelie Jane, as had been initially and erroneously reported a few weeks ago.
Instead, Angelina and Brad named their new son and daughter Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.
Some readers have been wondering where they got those names. According to "The Baby Name Bible" author Linda Rosenkrantz, interviewed at People.com:
1. Shaking the Family Tree: Knox is a Scottish-English-Irish surname and the middle name of Brad's grandfather, Hal Knox Hillhouse. Léon is the name of Angelina's great-great grandfather.
2. The X-Factor: The Jolie-Pitts' two other sons, Maddox and Pax, have an x in their first names.
3. Mother Complex: Vivienne is the French form of Vivian, which may reflect her birthplace or heritage. Or it could be a name in Pitt's family, because their baby boy is named for people from both parents' families. Marcheline is the French name of Angelina Jolie's late mother, who was of French-Canadian and Native American ancestry.
Hey, Rosie O'Donnell actually beat Angelina and Nicole Kidman (her new daughter is named Sunday Rose and here's why!) to the punch for their baby names 5 1/2 years ago. Rosie's daughter is dubbed Vivienne Rose.
More important, will Angelina get one tattoo or two for the geographical birthplace of her new babies?
Personally, I think she should double up. She's in danger of running out of room on that arm.
And you just know they're not gonna stop at six.

Sure... it's fun to have babies when you're not doing the actual day-in and day-out raising of them. If I had a staff of nannies, I might not have stopped at two.

When this happens in cattle, twins, one boy and one girl, they are usually sterile. How about humans? What are the chances ?

I cannot wait to see pictures of them! I am sure Angelina and Brad are up to the task of making their children feel loved and wanted and cared for on a daily basis with or without a mother's helper.
Working moms everywhere do it.
Congratulations to their whole family!
Congratulations

Don't you have something better to do with your time than waste it on this stuff. What intelligent person cares?

I think you guy's are awesome, and your best production of all is your children. I have two son's that I adore. Sometimes I wished I would have had more....Keep up the great job you are doing with your children. Wish all of you the BEST.

This family is an awesome spectacle. Any one of them could take a dump in a public restroom and it'd still be headline news. And now two competing celebrity rags are in a bidding war for the first pics of the twins. This is star power the likes of which we've never seen. Utterly amazing.

Congratulations to Brad and Angelina. Your choices are your own and you are not required to give an explanation to anyone. More so, to all the haters, live and let live. Those children appear to be very happy and very loved. I think Brad and Angelina, like Goldie and Kurt have created a lifestyle that works for them. They don't need nor do they desire the world's approval. I say kudos...kudos. Be who you are happy and free.

Yes, quite possibly the dumbest, though I've read many an uninformed, unenlightened comment on these boards. BTW, I am a fraternal twin - one boy, one girl. Neither of us are sterile.

It always cracks me up when someone takes the time to say
"Don't you people have anything better to do with your time?"!!! HA!

Are these two famous for something?

I hate celebrity stuff, but love babies so here I am looking at the names. I like them and am glad they were not named after some ridiculous fluff notion. Glad they were named after people in the lives of the parents. One thing about this couple charity work is about people and human betterment not evironmentalism or animal rights or other stuff that is meaningless.

Dear Lover
I would never stoop to writing about the new summer color.

whatever!!!!! They pulled them out of their Ar$. Who cares? besides they should be free to do whatever they want. Please everyone STFU about this and STFU about all of hollywoods "celebrities" and realize the little guy is the celebrity. We do not need to glorify any of these HW morons any more than they already do for themselves. OUT

First, If you have no interest in celebrity stuff, why read the articles and posts? For the love of pete...think about it.
Second, I keep reading comments about how the magazines in the bidding war should just give the money to some kind of humanitarian aid group. Well, that's what the couple plans to do. Good for them for using their celebrity to do something good.
Finally, the names are adorable! I hope they are all happy.

Vivienne is derived fromt he french word "vivre" which means to live. Vivienne Marcheline. How sweet and cute!

Never mind, "Every woman on this earth would love to be Angelina right now..". I'm sure most men on the planet wished he were Brad Pitt 9 months ago.

okay i def love how everybody's hatin on angie and brad for having babies and then hiring some nannies to take care of them sometimes. a LOT of people do that, they have a job. acting isn't all that glamorous and angelina is a wonderful actress who is completely talented at what they do and although i'd much rather me be in brad's place than he himself, i support them 100% in WHATEVER they do!

Angelina's mother wasn't Native American it was a lie told by her mother because she wanted to look exotic.

Anyone else notice that Vivian Knox is the name of the fiend chick in charlie's angels?????
Posted by: Cley WHite | July 14, 2008 at 09:34 PM
The name Vivienne is so glamorous next to ol' Shiloh. What was she thinking? It's really obvious she wanted the boys names to match. Why not the girls?

Congratulations to you both.
That was my father's name KNOX LEON PYLE, JR. He passed away 2 months after 911. He was a great husband, father and a Marine. I must say this was a shocker to me and my mom (her name is Fredye Joe - Fred was her father's name and Joe was her uncle who was a Senator in Louisiana)because it is such a rare name. We feel honored and wish blessings upon your two precious gifts.
