'Dark Knight' Christian Bale arrested for alleged assault! Of his mother and sister?
"The Dark Knight" smashed box office records this weekend.
Now comes news that Batman/Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister.
The alleged incident was believed to have taken place on Sunday night at Park Lane's Dorchester Hotel in London where Bale is staying.
Bale's mother, Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, are said to have gone to a police station in Hampshire to make the allegation, which was subsequently referred to the Metropolitan Police.
Despite the allegations, he was permitted to attend the Monday night premiere of "The Dark Knight" in London's West End. But this morning he turned himself in and is still in custody, according to police.
A Met Police spokesman told the London Telegraph: "A 34-year-old man attended a London Police Station on Tuesday by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault."
Bale, 34, is married to Sibi Blazic, a former personal assistant to Winona Ryder, for eight years. They have a 3-year-old daughter Emmaline.
Bale, who lives in Los Angeles, was born in Haverfordwest in South Wales. His father was the late David Bale, an activist and businessman, and his mother, Bale's second wife, was a circus performer.
He has two older sisters, Sharon and Louise, and a half-sister, Erin, from his father's first marriage.
Bale left Wales at age 2 and lived in Portugal, the U.S. and in Bournemouth.
His first role was in Steven Spielberg's epic "Empire Of The Sun." He was 13.
In 1994, he appeared in "Little Women" alongside Ryder. In 2000, he was cast in the controversial movie "American Psycho," based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel.
He's also appeared in "Captain Corelli’s Mandolin," "The Machinist," and "Rescue Dawn."
He became Batman in the 2005 blockbuster and will next appear as John Connor in "Terminator Salvation," due out next year.
Coincidentally, Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blogger Geoff Boucher saw Bale last week on the set of "Terminator Salvation."
More details to come as story develops...

It's probably nothing. The British police will arrest you for anyhting, especially if you're famous. A touch of jealously perhaps from Ma and Sis?

All that glitters...

In another telling display of misogyny, the police admitted they waited to question him until *after* the movie premiere.

He plays such tormented characters -- it's not surprising he has issues in real life.

Great actors place so much of themselves into their roles that they often run the risk of being unable to separate who they play from who they are. Few of the rest of us are willing to be as courageous, by delving deeply into ourselves for the sake of their work. All too often they pay an incalculable price for their deep explorations.
If the charges prove to be valid, have compassion for all concerned.

An 'American Psycho' in London?

You've got to be kidding me. It's @ best commitment, but pretending to be other people for a living is not courageous. As far as the charges in question, they would seem to be valid judging the source to be his own family, but criminal charges and a court date probably won't occur. The mother and sister probably figure the arrest was enough to send a message, and won't testify against Bale.

No matter how many masks he hides behind, Christian Bale will always be a disrespectful, remorseless, and pathetic abuser of women. A real "star" scumbag. With any luck Catwoman will finish him off in the next one.

Perhaps he cut them off and they didn't like it.

Too bad the LA Times is too lazy to get us the facts and details. Instead, the Times/Snead just pass along other reporters' vague gossip. No wonder the Times is losing money. We expect more from the paper of record for the entertainment capital of the world.

This story needs to be updated and clarified. He was "arrested" for "verbal assault." Frankly, I think it's a pathetic charge. Who hasn't been involved in a tongue-lashing w/ their own family?? Big deal. His mother and sister sound like idiots and they should have known better. Work this out amongst yourselves, like most families do!

This is tough for a famous person..imagine being asked, "when did you stop beating your family?"

This title is misleading. At no time was he jailed. It now appears that it was a VERBAL assault, not a physical one.
Please update.

what's next? Bale becomes a hobo, having lost his fame. As a hobo Bale becomes the abused suffering from one attack after the next. Is there no justice to be done?

If he had filed the charges, he would have been laughed at. Now that the "weaker sex" has filed the charges, it is taken as gospel. Long live the double standards!

First off, "assault" refers to verbal assault, no one is saying he physically struck anyone. Also, let's not rush to judge the man without knowing the details of either side of the story. And lastly, how serious could it have been if the authorities chose not to hold Mr.Bale? For all we know, this could be a family argument that got out of control. Mr. Bale's mother is a circus performer, and his sister is an actress, so it sounds like a flair for the (over?) dramatic runs in the family.

how much do you want to bet that it will come down to Mother and Sis asking for money and going to the police because they couldn't get it out of him. Fame and Family Extortion, such an old hollywood standard.

The headline is sloppy and misleading. He was not jailed at all. He was questioned and "arrested" (which means something different in the UK than in the US). Is it really so much to ask journalists to know what they're talking about and get the facts straight before they launch into sensationalistic bull****?

In the U.K. you can be "arrested" for telling a person to go "F" yourself. Makes total sense to me - I should be in prison for life.

Looks like they're after his money.

What a load of shit. He probably didn't even do anything. Fuck the media
Posted by: freespeech | July 22, 2008 at 03:44 PM
The title of this "piece" is completely off base. He was not jailed. He appeared at the police station as requested and was released. Rag is right.

Since I already have no faith in the press I'm not surprised. But, you can get arrested in England for insulting someone? Does that go with a slap on the cheek with a white glove and a duel at sunrise? Who would report such a thing to the police unless they wanted to undermine someone at the absolute pinnacle of his career?
Posted by: Thel | July 22, 2008 at 03:59 PM
Headline is very misleading, terrible reporting.

What was I reading--The Los Angeles Times or the National Enquirer? Tough to tell the difference re this story. * yawn *
