'American Idol' host Ryan Seacrest's good (and bad hair) days

Ryan_teen_choice_awards_2003

"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest may actually be nominated for an Emmy this year in the brand new category "Outstanding host for a reality or reality-competition program."

But in our book, Ryan is already the winner of "Outstanding hairstyles for a host of a reality or reality-competition program."

The dude has definitely taken some brave plummage risks over the past decade. His impressively diverse hairdos and hues have ranged from blond, brunett and almost auburn to gelled, waxed, greased and spiked, to based, highlighted and streaked. How does he find time for these ongoing hairstyle changes? Perhaps Ryan's hairdresser does it while he's sleeping?

Naturally, given the multitude of mane changes in the past decade, mistakes were made. And Ryan is the first to admit it. When the Dish Rag asked Ryan at the Details Mavericks party this year if he'd ever made any grooming goofs, he went straight for the follicle.

"Oh, yeah, that’s easy," Ryan said. "Take a look at the hair in 'Season 1.' There are about 32 errors. I think at one point there was way too many chemicals involved. Too much of the paint brush and too many chemicals."

Keeping Rob Lowe's 2002 statement on E! in mind -- “Living your life in the public eye is a series of bad hairdos” -- click here for a Red Carpet Rewind photo gallery of Ryan's Seacrest's Hollywood hair history.

Photos: Ryan Seacrest was a surfer dude? His meticulously highlighted beach blond hair totally works at the Teen Choice Awards, where he -- fittingly -- picked up his first surfboard award in 2003.
