Sean Penn, Robin Wright, Madonna and Petra Nemcova's Cannes comedy: 'Three Women and a Bunch of Smokes'
Oo-la-la! Jury president Sean Penn may turn the 2008 Cannes Film Festival into the set of a French romantic comedy we like to call, "Three Women and a Baby."
According to wire service reports, the petulant actor/director/producer broke the French indoor smoking ban during the jury press conference and a dinner at the Carlton Hotel for the jury, select guests and the cast of the opening film "Blindness."
Penn reportedly also used the 'F' word and bashed President Bush's politics for "inane stupidity, and for lack of good, the absolute evil of it."
And that was just the opening day!
Penn, the first jury president to have at least one burly bodyguard and his protective shield/publicist with him at all times, has about 10 more days to stay "wise and sober," as he joked with the press. That may be more difficult than it sounds.
Here's why: Penn's on-again second wife, Robin Wright-Penn, will arrive in Cannes tomorrow. Remember the couple filed for divorce six months ago, but about a month ago they changed their minds? She co-stars with Robert DeNiro in "What Just Happened," Barry Levinson's film about a Hollywood producer getting his third divorce, the closing-night film. Penn also has a cameo in the film.
But Penn's first wife, Madonna, (they divorced in 1989) is also arriving in Cannes on Friday. Madge will screen her Malawi AIDS orphans documentary, "I Am Because We Are," during the fest on May 21 and will co-host and perform at the AmFAR Cinema Against AIDS fund-raiser on May 22, along with Sharon Stone and Harvey Weinstein.
Enter stage left, Penn's very cozy and kissy-face 2008 Oscar date, sexy young blond model/activist Petra Nemcova, who will also be in Cannes working with the Creative Coalition.
There's no way these four people will not run into each during the festival. Can we say awkward?

Sean Penn protects Madonna from the paparazzi way back in 1986. Their tumultuous marriage lasted from 1985 to 1989. She has told the press that he was her one true love.
Petra Nemcova sure put a smile on the perpetually scowling Penn's face when she was his 2008 Oscar night party date. They met through their joint humanitarian efforts and are reportedly just friends. Oh-kay.

first day of the film festival. Wake up, Sean! Have a couple of cafe
noirs. You're gonna need 'em.

I hate people who have no concern and respect for others' health. If he loves these cancer sticks so much he should lock himself in a private room and smoke himself to death. Please don't torture others just because your are a cool movie star.

Spare us these self-entitled celebrities, their above-the-law arrogance, their trivial concerns and their pet addictions.
Is it his total dorkitude that gets him these jobs, because he can always make the news by being an obnoxious, self-important imbecile?
Why do we continue to tolerate, and even reward this ugly class of fools?
