Richard Dreyfuss to play Dick Cheney in 'W'? Perfect.
Richard Dreyfuss would make a great Dick Cheney in Oliver Stone's upcoming political movie, "W."
The Hollywood Reporter says the actor is in "final negotiations" for the role. This is the last major slot in Stone's take on the Bush administration. Josh Brolin will play President Bush. Thandie Newton is Condoleezza Rice and Elizabeth Banks will be W's wife, Laura Bush.
Dreyfuss, 60, has never played a U.S. vice president. But I think he's got the sneer to portray Cheney.
Dreyfuss, best known for his roles in Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," played a senator in "The American President," Alexander Haig in a TV movie about Ronald Reagan and the leader of a banana republic in the 1980s comedy "Moon Over Parador."
"W" has been selling distribution rights at Cannes, and the film is planned for an October release, just before the November election. The DVD release will follow in January, timed to Bush's departure from the White House.
Too bad the Iraq war didn't have such a well-conceived, well-timed strategy.
