'Sex and the City' sells internationally, before the New York premiere!
"Sex and the City: The Movie" is betting big on the international market.
But will the film risk alienating its loyal U.S. fan base?
My international press sources say the latest news is that the "SATC" New York premiere is set for May 27.
But the world premiere will take place earlier, between May 13-16, in jolly old London.
Huh?
Apparently, the studio PR departments - Warner Bros. and New Line - are meeting this afternoon to hammer out the details. Insiders say they have something extra special planned for New York.
But they see London as the best way to reach the European markets, very important for international box office biz and for all the fashion byproducts of this film. Opening big in London apparently negates having to do individual premieres in other European cities.
However, there is talk of an Australia tour for the "SATC" stars.
The Big Apple press junket for the film, where all the stars will be talking with TV, radio, print and Internet journalists, is on May 5-6. And the international press junket is a few days before, on May 2-4.
Word is that the studio isn't flying press for free to the junket the way it usually does. Why? Because this film is so hot that it doesn't need to. The press is actually paying its own way!

Great Idea to have the premiere in London. After all, London is the greatest city in the world and THE gatway to the world.
