'Idol' worship: Who wore what, and why was Brad Pitt mum?
The fashions at last night's taping of "Idol Gives Back" ranged from the sublime to the casual.
Carrie Underwood wore a formal, off-the-shoulder Farah Angsana satin gown. Fergie was poured into what looked like rubber pants with high boots and a black Lycra tank. Miley Cyrus chose predictable teen pop star staples: skin-tight jeans, boots and a white silk tank with glitzy silver spangles.
Though he wore the night's dorkiest hat (possibly to hide what looked like a freshly shaved head) Brad Pitt got the biggest, and longest, round of applause — which you may be able to see for yourself Wednesday night, April 9, when the edited show airs on Fox.
Even when the applause, shouts and screams died down, Pitt still couldn't introduce a clip about Season 5 "Idol" contestant Chris Daughtry's recent visit to Uganda, because his microphone had gone awry. Stage manager Debbie McVickers rushed to fix it and joked to the audience, "I just needed a reason to touch him."
But that wasn't enough. A female production assistant also had to help repair the mike situation. So McVickers followed up with, "We need more women to touch him!"

Last year, the show raised more than $75 million. This year's show may raise double or triple that, thanks to a $200-million pledge from British Prime Minister Gordon Brown for mosqito nets.
This year's six charities are: the Children’s Defense Fund; the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria; Make It Right; Malaria No More; Save the Children; and the Children’s Health Fund.
The show features performances by Cyrus, Underwood, John Legend, Annie Lennox, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Fergie and Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. Many other celebs — including Bono, Adam Sandler, Jennifer Connelly, Julianne Moore, Amy Adams and Jim Carrey — pre-taped messages that will be shown during Wednesday's broadcast.

Guess even the mike got the quivers when Brad touched it. Must have been a female one!
