Seems TV darling Mary Tyler Moore -- the ultimate '70s role model for liberated single career gals -- used to smoke!
It's common to see actresses smoking these days. But many of them, including Lindsay Lohan and "Grey's Anatomy" star Katherine Heigl, now try hard to hide their nicotine habits from the paparazzi.
But who knew MTM was a private puffer? They sure never showed that on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"!
I guess "Mad Men" really is an accurate portrayal of how popular smoking used to be back in the day. We're still glad it's on the way out. Hopefully, for good!

You had no idea that MTM used to smoke? Seriously?
It wasn't exactly private either. She actually did cigarette commericals.

Hundreds of millions of people have smoked in the past, and hundreds of millions of people still smoke (worldwide). I can't even imagine why someone would bother to point out the fact that someone smokes, or used to smoke. What's the next headline? "Gavin McCloud used to drink Tang"?
