Did Cate steal Keira's "Atonement" color?
Cate Blanchett, her hair freshly highlighted by colorist Negin Zand (John Frieda Salon) on Saturday afternoon, braved the drizzle at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival wearing a sexy, snug green Herve Leger frock. She also gave a tribute to Heath Ledger when accepting her Modern Master award: "I'd like to pay a final tribute to Heath Ledger, whom I think was an extraordinary actor and well on his way to becoming a masterihimself. We will all miss him."
It was strange to see Cate not wearing Armani last night.
But the Leger choice was a sensible one for a second tier event. First, the unusual color resembles that memorable green gown in Keira Knightley's Oscar nominated film, "Atonement." And talk about support. The bandaid effect of his gowns acts like a great girdle and supports the breasts too.
That's why his gowns have been worn by Lycra-lovers such as Rihanna, Victoria Beckham, The Pussy Cat Dolls, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, Sofia Bush, Nelly Furtado, Kate Beckinsale, Kim Kardashian, Pink, Sheryl Crowe, Kate Bosworth and Eva Longoria.
Mariah Carey wore one to the 2006 Grammys. Emily Blunt wore a white Leger to pick up her Golden Globe. and Sharon Stone wore hers to the premiere of "Basic Instinct: 2" Jessica Simpson wore a navy number in Cannes to promote her "Major Movie Star."
But even a Leger dress couldn't save that sinker!
Stay tuned to The Dish Rag for SAG scoop from Deborah Netburn. I'll be outside with our video crew on the (possibly soaked) red carpet for a few hours this afternoon checking out all the great gowns. After the arrivals, The Envelope crew moves inside (to drier quarters) and I'll be chatting backstage with the giddy winners backstage until the bitter end!
Somebody, anybody, please do a "No Rain " dance! This may be the only big awards this season and it would be great to see some dry gowns and umelted makeup and hairdos.

terrible commentary. Cate doesn't have to steal fashion from Keira Knightley or anyone else. And keira's acid green ugliness doesn't come close to the winter shade of green Cate wore. You mention her colorist inthe first line? You show gowns from years past? How much do you hate Cate ESNEAD?

its such a shame the weather couldn't cooperate. Must make it so difficult to talk to anyone when all they want to do is get out of the rain.

great description of the green dress worn by Cate. You are so right on. It was a good choice to flatter a mummy-to-be.

Kate Stole her atonement already. She also stole her nomination. its a disgrace to see that Cate Blanche's crap like Elizabeth The Golden Age got nominated when it was a crap movie. This years Oscar promotes mediocrity.,
