  Los Angeles Times file photo

[Update: This is a still from a Deanna Durbin film with the working title of “Forever Yours” and released as “The Amazing Mrs. Holliday.” The original caption information is on the jump.]

Something unfortunate happened to this print, and a chunk of emulsion was torn away. It has never been published in The Times, presumably for that reason. But it’s fine for a mystery photo.

Let’s take a closer look….

Looks very much like Deanna Durbin

THE AMAZING MRS. HOLLIDAY with Deanna Durbin and director Jean Renoir.

Deanna Durbin?

Suspect the film is 'Dragon Seed' and the female talent is probably Frances Rafferty (before 'December Bride'), or Agnes Moorhead (just after 'Kane').

The man in the panama hat is easy -- Jean Renoir. My guess is that the film is This Land is Mine. If so, the actress in the scene is Nancy Gates.
