Just a reminder on how this works: I post the mystery photo on Monday and reveal the answer on Friday ... or on Saturday if I have a hard time picking only five pictures; sometimes it's difficult to choose. To keep the mystery photo from getting lost in the other entries, I move it from Monday to Tuesday to Wednesday, etc., adding a photo every day.
I have to approve all comments, so if your guess is posted immediately, that means you're wrong. (And if a wrong guess has already been submitted by someone else, there's no point in submitting it again).
If you're right, you will have to wait until Friday or Saturday. There's no need to submit your guess five times. Once is enough. The only reward is bragging rights.
Last week’s mystery guests were Raymond Hackett and Blanche Sweet. The weekend mystery guests were Mary McIvor and William Desmond.
There’s a new photo on the jump! | |
Los Angeles Times file photo For Tuesday, our mystery guest has a mystery companion. Almost everyone identified our mystery woman. Please congratulate: Mary Mallory, Carmen, Jenny M., Lee Ann Thom and Megan, Eve (Oh, heavens ... I think everyone will know her!) Golden, Mike Hawks, Claire Lockhart, Dewey Webb, Anne Papineau, Barbara Klein, Periwinkle, Steve Stoliar, LC, Gregory Moore, Lynne Levine, Randy Skretvedt, Rick (Finally one I can get) Scott, Angus, Mark Heimback-Nielsen, RJ, Cat (I'm so excited I never get these!) M, Stacia (This is like Everett Sloane week when dozens of us guess it on the first day, isn't it), Don Danard AND Alexa Foreman. Whew I think that's everybody.
Los Angeles Times file photo For Wednesday, here’s another photo of our mystery gal with a (not very) mysterious companion. Please congratulate Herb Nichols, Julie Merholz, Gerald McCann, Kevin Kusinitz, La Peregrina and David Thompson for identifying her. Los Angeles Times file photo
Here’s our mystery woman with another mystery companion. Everybody recognized Wednesday’s mystery fellow. Los Angeles Times file photo
And for Friday, our mystery guest has another mystery companion! Now then, I’ve been busy researching The Times bombing, so I haven’t given everybody proper credit. I think that by now nearly everyone has identified our mystery gal. Is there anyone who didn’t recognize Guy Kibbee from Wednesday? I don’t think so! (Unfortunately the movie isn’t identified on the back of the photo.) Mike Hawks recognized the movie in Thursday’s photo but not the mystery guest (he’s not identified on the back of the photo so I have no idea who he is). |

Aline MacMahon, I think. Just saw her in "Gold Diggers of 1933" playing a snappy 20-something chorus girl, and then saw her very next picture, "The Life of Jimmy Dolan," where she plays a 50- or 60-something mother hen, both convincingly. She's also great in "Heat Lightning," trying to keep her younger, frisky sister Ann Dvorak out of trouble. (Good luck!)
