As nearly everyone realized, this is Evelyn Nesbit, the subject of a recent Paul Coates column
Just a reminder on how this works: I post the mystery photo on Monday and reveal the answer on Friday ... or on Saturday if I have a hard time picking only five pictures; sometimes it's difficult to choose. To keep the mystery photo from getting lost in the other entries, I move it from Monday to Tuesday to Wednesday, etc., adding a photo every day.

I have to approve all comments, so if your guess is posted immediately, that means you're wrong. (And if a wrong guess has already been submitted by someone else, there's no point in submitting it again).

If you're right, you will have to wait until Friday. There's no need to submit your guess five times. Once is enough. The only reward is bragging rights.

The answer to last week's mystery star is Madge Bellamy!

There’s another photo on the jump!

And congratulate Gregory Moore and Randy Skretvedt for identifying Wednesday's mystery companion.

Is it Evelyn Nesbit?

Elizabeth McGovern?

Evelyn Nesbit?

Evelyn Nesbit-Thaw?

Well, the tiger's name is Larry....

evelyn nesbit

Ah! The delectible Evelyn Nesbit, with one "t!"

She looks just like Evelyn Nesbit but that seems too easy.

Is it Evelyn Nesbit?

Jane Novak

Claudia Cardinale

The lady looks like Evelyn Nesbit.

Barbara LaMarr?

Evelyn Nesbittt?

Joan Collins portrayed Eveyln in the Girl in the Red Velvet Swing.

Is it a retro-styled Joan??

Helen Hayes!

She's the girl in the red velvet swing, Evelyn Nesbit. Have no idea who the tiger is.

And there's no truth in the rumor that she was seeing Ray Milland. He would have been way to young for her.

Adrienne Barbeau?

Evelyn Nesbitt

Evelyn Nesbit Thaw. She was tough but her kimono and the rug gave her away. Joan Collins played her in The Girl on the Red Velvet Swing, shown recently on cable.

Is it Evelyn Nesbitt?

Evelyn Nesbit

Hey, folks, that can be only one woman:

Evelyn Nesbit, the "girl in the red swing."

Her lover, Harry K. Thaw, shot Stanford White over her. And he almost completely got away with the killing.

Ronald Emmis

Valerie Allen ?

Evelyn Nesbit!
