Angels Lose to Orioles, 9-8

The Angels limped back to Orange County down 2-0 in the American League playoffs after a 9-8 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The Angels came back from a 9-1 deficit and had the bases loaded, but Brian Downing hit a grounder to future Angel Doug DeCinces, who tagged out Dan Ford. Downing was up because the Orioles walked Don Baylor, the league's Most Valuable Player in 1979, to load the bases. One more loss and the season would be over. -- Keith Thursby
