June 20, 1959: John Wayne as interpreted by Al Hirschfeld. Pretty great, no?

I have heard that The Horse Soldiers didn't do that well at the box office but I love it. Strother Martin and Denver Pyle just about steal the picture as Reb deserters. Bing Russell (Kurt Russell's dad) has a nice bit in the film and Connie Towers shows a whole lot of skin, and great skin it is, in the flick. And you can't make a Western without Hoot Gibson, can you?
