The Episcopal church was collecting money to buy a nuclear reactor for the Anglican University of St. Paul in Tokyo. The idea of preaching from the Episcopal pulpit about the benefits of nuclear energy is almost beyond belief.

The U.S. went through a love affair with nuclear power in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The promise was electric power too cheap to meter. In January 1966 the State of California was considering building a nuclear power plant in Cayucos.
