Kathy Fiscus Revisited -- April 9, 1949

The Times, April 9, 1949, a little San Marino girl is trapped in an old well.

L.A.Times photo Bill Yancey is lifted to the surface, carrying the body of Kathy Fiscus. I attended William Deverell's lecture Monday night on the Kathy Fiscus tragedy. Several people in the audience at the Huntington remembered watching live TV coverage or listening to it on the radio. One woman said she was 11 years old at the time and was at the rescue scene for an hour or so. Here's a lofi recording for those who missed the lecture.
