Feb. 22, 1914: The flood waters of the Los Angeles River (no concrete channel in those days) leave half a million pigeons drowned or homeless!

Our ancestors in Los Angeles apparently found pigeons to be rare, exotic creatures. And they would pay money to see them. A photo labeled "Yorgason Pigeon Farm" has been listed on EBay. Bidding starts at $6.50.

I don't know about people of 1914 finding pigeons "rare, exotic creatures."

In the story it mentions pigeon squabs "ready for market" for people seeking "cheap bird meat." I think the rarity is in how many hundreds of thousands were housed in the sheds.

Hi there,
Any chance you can narrow down where the "Yorgason Pigeon Farm" used to be? If it was between San Fernando Blvd., and the river, I'd bid.
Otherside, and I'd pass.

Thanks,
