Sad letter.

Phone number "Trinidad 1980". Four digits or six?

I'm guessing six. Why was there a word in front of the numbers instead of six numbers?

I remember this number: RIchmond 9-5171

First of all, she was a very gracious lady.

In the early days, the first two numbers of a phone number were the first two leeters of a word. This was done away with in the 1960;s as they ran out of words. They added the fifth number in the late 1930's or 1940's when they began to run out of numbers.
