A thought about the Raymond Bombing and the events surrounding it in the year 1938.

Two future presidents were living in southern California at the time and given the interest in politics both had, I can't imagine either of them not at least hearing about the Raymond Bombing and having some sort of opinion about it. Richard Nixon had just graduated from Duke Law School, had returned to Southern California and was doing "Family Law", something he was supposed have found "boring". Ronald Reagan had been signed to a contract to do movies with Warner Brothers in 1937 and had moved to Los Angeles from the midwest. Both would get their start in politics in Southern California. Nixon much earlier than Reagan though.

Can't help but think of Nixon when I read about Frank Shaw. Too many parallels. During Watergate, a commentator call Nixon a product of Southern California politics. At the time, I didn't know what he was talking about. In the late 60's and early 70's, Southern California politics was a wasteland with people like Sam Yorty running things. Obviously in the 1930's and 1940's when Nixon was coming up, things were different. Can't say it was boring though.
