Edmund Waller "Ted" Gale was an institution at The Times from 1907 until he quit in 1934 in a dispute over editorial policies and went to the Examiner. Gale, who died in 1975, was the man who created the iconic "Miss Los Angeles." This concludes my "Christmas past" features. I hope you had as much fun reading them as I had in pulling them together. And to my friends of other faiths, let me say I am mining the archives for pictures of the many religious holidays celebrated throughout Los Angeles' history.
